Position Overview

Essential Job Duties
The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar in the social-natural sciences to lead a team designing and conducting a synthesis of climate adaptation science and practice in the Southeastern US and US Caribbean. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management. A wealth of climate information exists for the Southeast and US Caribbean, but managers struggle to acquire, interpret, and use that information effectively, especially under rapid decision-making timelines. The Postdoctoral Scholar is expected to use a co-production process to design the synthesis methods, including focal areas, data sources, and diverse epistemological approaches to consider, conducting the synthesis, and developing products. Focus groups representing the management community will inform final products, visualizations, and tools to ensure efficacy. Anticipated synthesis products may include review papers, fact sheets, the database of existing resources, annotated bibliographies, creative visualizations, web tools, etc.
We seek a scholar with skills in the synthesis of existing data and research, organizing and running convenings with partners from various perspectives, facilitation, qualitative and quantitative approaches to synthesizing different types of data sources, and improving accessibility of existing science and data (e.g., visualization, science communication, etc.). We are particularly interested in candidates with evidence of experience in developing databases of existing resources, authorship on synthesis/review papers, building web tools to visualize existing data, and leading groups of diverse researchers. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be co-mentored by Rebecca Irwin (SE CASC Consortium Director), Nils Peterson (SE CASC Research Affiliate), Jen Cartwright (SE CASC Science Coordinator) and Cari Furiness (SE CASC Assistant Consortium Director).

This postdoctoral position is initially for 1 year with the opportunity for renewal for up to 2 years. Preference will be given to candidates who can reside in the Triangle, with office space at NC State University. Application review will begin in February 2025 until the position is filled.
