DESCRIPTION

This position serves as a Business and Fiscal Analyst for the Advancement Business Office in support of the operations of VC-Advancement. Provides analytical support to the Director of Business and Fiscal Affairs and Business and Fiscal Officers. This position compiles financial data from various internal and external sources to be analyzed and used to develop reports, budgets, and administrative business procedures for the department. Researches and prepares briefing materials and statistical information. Advises divisional leadership of discrepancies and makes recommendations of solutions. Assists in streamlining fiscal processes and implementing technical solutions to improve financial reporting models. Assists in developing controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data. Also, responsible for the reconciliation of approximately 300 permanent staffing positions for Advancement units. Reviews confidential documents concerning personnel matters such as salary and fringe benefit data.

Uses professional concepts. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve various issues. Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Contacts are primarily internal to the department, but may also be external.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.

  • Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.

  • Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to function as a member of a team.

  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of accounting principles, theory and practice, and knowledge and experience in applying fund accounting principles. Ability to analyze and summarize accounting data, perform reconciliations, resolve accounting problems, prepare financial statements and communicate results to management.

  • Experience in interpreting and applying policies and procedures regarding fiscal operations and to develop internal fiscal operating policy recommendations.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills to perform financial and budgetary analysis and prepare comprehensive reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, adapt, implement and evaluate new procedures, systems and reports.

  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and information, recognize potential impact, identify alternative solutions and make recommendations.

  • Demonstrated skills in organizing tasks, including the ability to manage time, plan and prioritize tasks. Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment with numerous interruptions and fluctuating priorities. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and work efficiently during peak periods and communicate issues, potential problems, and needs in order to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to query databases, extracts data, develop spreadsheets and analyze data.

  • Advanced mathematical skills with the ability to perform calculations, statistical analysis, modeling and projections, samplings, and forecasting.

  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to write and prepare clear and concise reports, presentations and correspondence. Ability to interact effectively with diverse levels of personnel over the telephone, computer and in person. Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, adaptability and ability to recognize sensitive situations.

  • Ability to conceptualize methods of improving business processes through the application of technology and computer software applications.

  • Proven ability to maintain strict attention to detail, accuracy, clarity, and confidentially. Ability to protect the integrity of secured information, etc.

  • Skill in writing analytical reports. Ability to present findings in written, verbal, and electronic formats understandably.

  • Ability to perform detailed audits of budget, staffing and fund transfer data to ensure policy compliance and accuracy. Ability to design, adapts, implement or evaluate new procedures, systems and reports. Ability to work and participate in team environment.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
