Position Title: AIARE Instructor Business Unit: Alpine Operations - AIARE Position Reports to: Senior Manager Adventure Programs Positions Reporting to this Role: None Location: Crystal Mountain, Washington Wage Range: $30 - 35/hour JOB SUMMARY As an AIARE Instructor at Crystal Mountain, you will help execute avalanche education courses through the mountain. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic backcountry skier or splitboarder, possesses AIARE instructor status, and is excited to welcome new recreational users to the backcountry setting. Instructors will assist the Course Leader in facilitating the course. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Instruct AIARE courses in December, January, February, and March. * Assist the AIARE Course Leader with critical course operations. * Provide guest feedback and answer questions participants may raise. * Promote Leave No Trace (LNT) and USFS practices for minimizing visitor impacts and preserving the natural beauty of our surrounding environment. * Promote Crystal values and awareness of the resort uphill travel policy. * Contribute to a positive working environment * Maintain a safe, healthy, and secure working environment * Promote and ensure safe practices using all required PPE and adhering to proper safety protocols in all activities * Promote and market activity options to our guests * Attend daily pre-shift meetings and necessary trainings * Gather guest feedback and recommend improvements to management * Promote and maintain the highest level of customer service by anticipating the needs of our guests even before they realize what they need * Resolve guest complaints within scope of authority; otherwise refer the matter to management. Notify supervisor of all unusual events, circumstances, missing items, or alleged thefts. * Develop and maintain an organizational culture, values and reputation with staff and guests. * Ensure a positive, harmonious, compliant, and cooperative work environment. * Act as a representative of Crystal Mountain with guests & community members. * Abide by all Crystal Mountain employment guidelines. * High energy, positive attitude and excellent communication skills KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS * Applicants must possess advanced ski/ride skills and backcountry touring skills. * Qualified to instruct AIARE courses (AIARE PRO 1 and ITC certification) * Valid WFR & CPR (or equivalent) * Comfort touring up groomed runs and off-piste backcountry terrain. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS * This position is required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays while in operation. * This position involves working outdoors in a winter environment for extended periods of time. * Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position at least 50 pounds occasionally. * Must be comfortable in a public speaking role and presenting information to small groups (6-12 people). * Auditory and visual acuity to operate radios, mobile devices, and basic outdoor equipment constantly. * Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing, and pulling constantly. * Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis. * Talking and hearing occur continuously in communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees, must be able to listen and respond with proper customer service. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
