Staff Associate I

The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is a unique interdisciplinary research environment specializing in human genetics and genomics. We are searching to fill a Staff Associate I position to support research on rodent and human stem cell models of neurological disease in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Makinson.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position are to assist with rodent animal colony maintenance including animal husbandry and genotyping. Molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, CRISPR genome editing, cell culture, and molecular assay development. Additional tasks such as purchasing and general lab management may also be required.

• Basic molecular and cell biology, genome engineering, animal colony maintenance 20%
• Molecular biology assay development and troubleshooting 20%
• The expectation is for the person in this role to be able to work independently to find solutions to problems 20%
• qPCR, Western blotting, chemical preparation, basic Python programing 20%
• Work in collaboration with other lab members 20%

Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years experience preferred
