Description

The Zoological Society of Milwaukee (the Society) is seeking a Volunteer Services Assistant to join a fun and talented team of professionals in supporting one of the most cherished community assets - the Milwaukee County Zoo. This part-time position assists the Volunteer Services Program Manager in implementing the volunteer services program - Zoo Pride - at the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, specifically in coordination, communication and relationship building with volunteers who support Society and Zoo operations. The role works closely with the Conservation Education team in support of the Society's mission to educate people about the importance of wildlife and animals and support the Milwaukee County Zoo (MCZ), and the Conservation Education department's vision to inspire and empower all members of our community to take conservation action. This position will also support staff and volunteers engaged in special events hosted by both the Society and Zoo.

This part-time role works up to 29 hours/week.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Coordinate volunteer services for our education programs to include scheduling, training, resource management and ongoing communications.

    • Coordinate scheduling for all volunteer events, trainings, resources and programs, aligning volunteer availability with requested services and organizational needs.
    • Provide ongoing written and verbal communication between staff and volunteers via email, newsletter, presentations and meetings.
    • Update and sustain the processes, procedures, and protocols as needed for smooth functioning of the volunteer services programming in our programs department.
    • Support volunteers at Zoo Pride office during events and on evenings and weekends as scheduled.


  • Coordinate volunteer services for our theater program to include scheduling, training, resource management and ongoing communications.
  • Coordinate volunteer services for our conservation actions, both on and off-site, which include scheduling, training, resource management and ongoing communications.
  • With Volunteer Services Manager, provide guidance and supervision of volunteer program interns.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources, support a process for background checks, establishing data collection, tracking, and assistance to volunteers without computer access.
  • Facilitate and support positive internal communications and organizational culture.



QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School Diploma required.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Volunteer experience is preferred.
  • Ability to build knowledge and understanding of Zoos and conservation efforts.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstration of excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; Spanish or second language fluency a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency in additional collaboration platforms, Better Impact, and/or volunteer management systems preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the Milwaukee County Zoo.
  • Ability to become CPR/1st Aid certified.
  • Ability to work flexible hours based upon volunteer program requirements, including weekends, late afternoon, and/or pre-designated holiday hours.
