Position Overview
This position is a 9-month (academic year), non-tenure track, faculty position in Management for the KU School of Business. Primary responsibilities are instructional in the area of specialty within the School of Business. This position will also serve as an Area Industry Mentor (AIM) in Management (MGMT) beginning August 18, 2025.

The AIM assists students who have reached junior standing in Management with the goal of structuring their experiences and academic pursuits for successful transition to professional employment. The AIM portion of this position serves as the pleasure their supervisor. This position reports directly to the Management Area Director, with strong secondary reporting ties to the Professionalism Program Director. The position is designated as an on-campus position and will be officed in Capitol Federal Hall.

This is an internal only search open to current non-tenure track faculty with a .50-1.00 FTE appointment at the School of Business including Lecturers, Multi-term Lecturers, Professors of the Practice and Teaching Professors.

The AIM may not have other concurrent administrative appointments. Candidates with existing administrative appointments may apply but their existing administrative duties will need to be re-assigned if they are selected to serve as AIM.

The total FTE for the combined Lecturer/AIM position may not exceed 1.0 FTE. Candidates with instructional responsibilities in excess of .40 FTE will need to have those teaching responsibilities re-assigned if they are selected to serve in this role.

Job Description
(Distribution of effort below assumes the title of Lecturer. Distribution of duties will be modified slightly for Teaching Professors to account for scholarly engagement responsibilities)

50% Teaching and Teaching Related Service - Management Area

40% Teaching
  • Teach the equivalent of four (4), 3-credit hour, courses per academic year in the area of specialty. Course load for instructors teaching 1-credit hour courses will be prorated base on Business School teaching policies. Professionalism courses noted in AIM responsibilities are not considered part of the 4 course teaching load. Teaching assignments will be at the undergraduate level offered either at the Lawrence campus or online. If courses are offered at the graduate level, faculty must meet KU HLC requirements. The Business School reserves the right to modify instructors course loads based on current needs of the School.
  • Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to: course preparation, student consultation, classroom instruction and assignment of course grades.

10% Teaching Related Service
  • Lecturers serve as participating members of departments and should engage in instruction-related activities beyond direct instruction. Examples include curriculum development committees and course improvement initiatives.
  • Lectures should abide by the Area's, School's and University's policies and procedures.
  • All faculty are expected to engage in area, school, university and professional service activities as needed.


50% Area Industry Mentor (AIM) Management - Serve as an Area Industry Mentor (AIM) in Management. Coordinate, execute and evaluate activities to support the KU School of Business' Professional Program goals as it relates to management. Independently utilize broad range of skills and tools to structure student experiences and academic pursuits for successful transition to professional employment including assessing professional readiness, coaching/mentoring, conducting industry outreach, building constituent relations, and tracking outcomes. Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Work in close coordination with Area Director and area faculty to provide strategic direction to ensure co-curricular programs and course work contribute to professional readiness.
  • Create and propose new action plans to Program Director/Area Director to further support strategic goals. Review and modify existing program components to foster student engagement.
  • Provide guidance to address knowledge, skill and experience gaps including referral to other university or Business School student services.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to students that would ultimately assist students in professional engagement upon graduation.
  • Serve a key role in the development and maintenance of a formal, engaged, and diverse network of industry partners and professional practitioners in the management discipline.
  • Develop and maintain matrixes for tracking of key program outcomes.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other AIM program members and professional program staff.
  • Complete or participate in other AIM related duties or activities that support the role, as assigned.
  • Provide instruction for up to two (2) one-hour credit courses within the professionalism program, per year. Primary course load will be sections of BUS 210 or BUS 230 for management but may include any course within the professionalism program. Course assignments are made by Professionalism Program Director. The Professionalism Program Director will coordinate with the Area Director if deviation from the identified primary course(s) is/are needed. The Business School reserves the right to modify instructors course loads based on current needs of the School.
  • May supervise student employees.

Required Qualifications
  1. Existing non-tenure track faculty appoint of .50 FTE or greater at the KU School of Business.
  2. A Master's degree in major field of instruction or meet HLC experience guidelines established by School and University.
  3. Demonstrated experience or potential to mentor undergraduate business students.
  4. Demonstrated network or potential to establish strong industry relations locally and regionally.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in business, management, advising, counseling or other closely related field.
  2. Familiarity with School of Business undergraduate management programs.
  3. Familiarity with School of Business professionalism program.
