The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has a unique and exciting opportunity for a Scientific Document Associate to lead and coordinate the development of ACC's new Scientific Statements. Serving as clinical policy, these documents address emerging gaps in cardiovascular knowledge and provide evidence-based consensus recommendations that guide cardiovascular care. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical acumen, excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills, experience with medical copy editing, and an ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring the rapid production and dissemination of impactful ACC policy statements.
This position is based in Washington, DC where we have a hybrid work environment (two days per week in the office).
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Scientific Statement Development
- Coordinate the creation, review, and publication of ACC Scientific Statements in alignment with the organization's clinical policy objectives.
- Collaborate with cardiovascular experts, researchers, and ACC leadership to identify gaps in clinical knowledge and prioritize statement topics.
- Develop and maintain an agile framework for drafting, reviewing, and approving scientific statements to ensure timely response to evolving clinical needs.
Content Oversight and Quality Assurance
- Ensure statements adhere to ACC standards for scientific rigor, evidence-based methodology, and clinical relevance.
- Guide multidisciplinary writing committees, ensuring consistent structure, tone, and clarity across documents.
- Regularly review and update existing policy statements to reflect advancements in cardiology practice and research.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between internal teams, writing committees, and external stakeholders involved in the development process.
- Work alongside each statements' chair to lead the group through the development to publication.
- Build relationships with subject matter experts, facilitating their participation in the development and review of statements.
- Represent ACC Scientific Statements at professional meetings, conferences, and other relevant venues.
Agile Process Management
- Create and maintain statement development timeline for each document and ensure writing committee members understand and adhere to the timeline.
- Develop and implement streamlined processes for statement production, reducing time to publication while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Manage the process to identify writing committee nominees, balancing expertise, workforce diversity, and relationships with industry.
- Lead production pf the statements, working with the publisher and the authors to review typeset proofs.
- Foster innovation in document delivery, such as interactive digital formats or modular statements tailored to diverse healthcare audiences.
- Track and assess the impact of scientific statements to inform future improvements.
Education and Dissemination
- Collaborate with ACC's dissemination and communication teams to ensure wide dissemination of scientific statements to the cardiology community.
- Support the development of supplemental educational materials (e.g., webinars, infographics, clinical tools) to enhance utilization of scientific statements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical cardiology, health research, or other healthcare-related project work
- Experience developing or managing clinical guidelines, scientific statements, or similar medical document development.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and organizational skills, with experience producing complex documents for diverse audiences.
- Strong leadership and project management abilities, with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.
- Familiarity with evidence-based medicine and guidance document frameworks.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage and motivate stakeholders effectively.
- Proficiency with collaboration platforms (e. g. Sharepoint).
- Familiarity with literature databases (e.g., PubMed) and reference management software (e.g. EndNote).
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous work with professional health associations
- Prior experience with scientific publications or medical journals
- Understanding of cardiology clinical practice
- Experience with project management tools (e. g. Monday.com)

These factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations. Our salary ranges differ based on the cost of labor in the local market where the job will be performed. For this role in Washington, DC (and other high-cost of labor markets if applicable, including California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Washington) the target base salary range is: $70,000 - 80,000. The salary ranges for other locations in the US will vary based on the local labor market; ACC's Recruitment Team will be able to provide more information to candidates during initial discussions.
