The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Data Strategy and Delivery, Data Standards and Governance

Department Summary

Data Strategy and Delivery (DSD) is the end-to-end clinical data business within Product Development Data Sciences and includes ~350 internal data experts and ~650 external CRO headcount. DSD colleagues are evenly distributed across Basel, Mississauga, SSF, & Welwyn plus ~25 China colleagues. DSDs primary impact is the delivery of FAIR & quality clinical data from over >300 clinical trials from early to late development & Med. Affairs. DSD has a large secondary data business, creating complex data marts, sharing clinical data for research purposes, and acquiring & hosting external patient data. DSD invests in industry-leading data standards, systems, tools and processes to drive efficiency and quality and to encourage data re-use.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on site.

The Opportunity

  • Collaborate with peers within the function and across the organization to identify, design and execute fit-for-purpose solutions to ensure a high quality of data and compliance with applicable pharma industry regulations and standards Assist in advising teams and stakeholders on best practices and proposing innovative solutions with regard to the collection of new data types (e.g., emerging biomarkers), new technologies (e.g., sensors), and new data sources (e.g., Real World Data, Electronic Health Records)

  • Proactively engage with stakeholders across PD Data Sciences and beyond to understand their needs and enhance their understanding of our processes

  • Support study teams in the adoption of global biomedical data standards

  • Contribute to functional, cross-functional, enterprise-wide or external initiatives that shape our future landscape

  • Adopt innovative solutions (e.g., AI) in the development of new data standards including industry-aligned biomedical concepts to enable end-to-end connectivity from protocol to regulatory submission

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12 months full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

Minimum required experience

  • Strong collaboration and excellent communication skills, both written and oral; proficiency in English required

  • Project Management skills

  • Able to manage multiple requests and priorities

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities around decision-making, negotiation, motivation (self and others) and influencing

Required Majors: BS & MS: Undergraduates who have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework at a university, current graduate students pursuing a Masters or recent grads (BS or MS within two years)

  • Knowledge of biological principles, display interest and demonstrate scientific curiosity including an understanding of data types and their scientific use (e.g., clinical, biomarker, RNA-sequencing)

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
