Job Description:

Saab is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented individual to fill the role of Principal Program Manager for the Ground Based Small Diameter Bomb Program. This position will report to the Program Execution Director. Within Saab's Land Systems Division, this program develops and produces long-range precision munition solutions that meet the evolving needs of armed forces around the world. The program priorities include High Volume Production, Product Support & Sustainment, and Complex Technical Product Development with production both domestically and internationally.

As the Principal Program Manager, the selected candidate will be tasked with ensuring successful day to day execution of existing programs and managing risks and opportunities. This is a leadership position with daily executive interactions internally and externally, and the successful candidate must display consistent impeccable judgment and embody Saab's leadership behaviors. The successful candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels and support geographically dispersed teams and customers, including executive leadership.

Currently this position is remote with up to 50% travel; relocation within 3 years may be required to Saab's future Manufacturing facility located in Michigan.

The Principal Program Manager join a team of leadership peers each responsible for leading all phases of program execution within the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb Programs. The Principal Program Manager will specifically focus on Systems-level coordination andmanagement. Essential duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of programs

  • Responsible to lead and guide Program Management of complex technical development programs from an overall system perspective

  • Participates in the negotiation of contract and contract changes

  • Participates in the preparation of proposals, business plans, investment plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contracts

  • May act as customer contact for program and capture activities, participating in program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance and new business opportunities

  • Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications

  • Directs the work of employees assigned to the program managers from technical, manufacturing, supply chain, mission assurance, business management, and other areas of the program

  • Provide day-to-day people leadership of program and functional teams and create an environment that accelerates development of talent

  • Apply rigorous knowledge management of budget management, continuous improvement, and supplier relationships.

Compensation Range: $161,700-$218,300

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, science, or related Operations discipline

  • 20+ years of aerospace and defense experience in a DoD/DCMA contractor environment

  • Minimum 8 years of management experience leading Program, Functional or Engineering management divisions

  • Minimum 8 years of management experience leading large, multi-functional teams

  • Significant leadership experience steering fast passed, schedule sensitive, technical development programs

  • Significant experience managing tasks cross functionally utilizing Engineering, Quality, Mission Assurance, Supply Chain, Program and Divisional leadership

  • Demonstrated experience managing portfolios/divisions with total values of $100M+

  • Demonstrated experience managing portfolios/divisions with annual Revenue responsibilities of $100M+

  • General understanding of propulsion and energetics systems and supply base within missile defense industry

  • Experience leading negotiations for development and production contracts with Domestic and International Defense departments and Supply Base Contractors

  • Significant experience in managing, tracking, and reporting metrics and progress through EAC reviews and periodic management reviews with internal and customer leadership

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued secret security clearance or ability to achieve Secret Clearance Status

Desired/Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Missile Program Leadership experience

  • Strong understanding of Earned Value Management

  • Program Management certifications issued by or through U.S. based Defense contractors

  • Experience developing International manufacturing and supply base organizations

  • Familiar with technical data development and sustainment processes

  • Experience developing sourcing strategies; to include soliciting/analyzing requests for proposals and coordinating supplier integration plans
