Essential Job Functions
The Career Development Center is seeking applicants for the Technology Support Analyst position. The Career Development Center provides a full range of career exploration and coaching services to students and alumni including professional development, internship advising, and student employment. We also engage with external constituents including employers. Utilizing technology in the delivery of our services is a critical component to our work.
The primary role of this position is to identify, develop, implement, and maintain technology solutions that assist the Career Development Center to effectively provide services and achieve the university's and department's strategic goals for career services. The primary responsibility is to ensure that technical tools and solutions employed by the Career Development Center and campus partners are meeting end-user requirements and needs with specific attention to the oversight and management of the career management software utilized (including, but not limited to; Handshake, Big Interview, UConnect, and Tableau) and the CDC website.

Major responsibilities include:

  • designing, developing, maintaining and enhancing CDC website;
  • fielding incoming support requests from staff, faculty, students, alumni, and employers concerning career development software and websites;
  • manage all aspects of Handshake including data integration, enhancements, event postings, student experience with the system, and payments taken via the system;
  • training users in the use of Handshake;
  • finding technology solutions to maximize the Handshake system;
  • integrate and maintain new software use by the Career Center;
  • run data reports and track KPIs to be used in strategic decisions.


The Analyst will assist in implementing technological solutions for assessment, evaluation, and statistical tracking; work closely with software vendors to configure software sites to align with the Center's needs; and serve as technical liaison between the staff and application developers.

The Analyst will also be the primary support to the Employer Relations team on creating, scheduling, and sending communications for our career management platforms, and designing content for social media platforms and other CDC communication outlets.
The successful candidate will seek out and research technological innovations and trends that could enhance the efficacy of Career Development Center services. The successful candidate will also have strong interpersonal skills and communication skills. A firm understanding of the principles and practices of web interface and user experience design is required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

  • Fluency in HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Responsive Design Frameworks (e.g. Bootstrap).
  • Working knowledge of Object Oriented Programming (experience with PHP preferred).
  • Experience with Adobe products including InDesign, Illustrator and Lightroom is preferred.
  • Familiarity with web analytics (e.g. Google Analytics) to inform website structure and design.
  • Understanding of how to analyze user behavior and recommend software and process changes accordingly.
  • A firm understanding of the principles and practices of web interface and user experience design is required.
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills used for tracking office KPIs, social media engagement, and Handshake usage and trends.
  • Ability to interpret and consolidate data reports for purposes of presentations and strategic decisions.
  • Ability to effectively train users with disparate technical backgrounds. Familiarity with common desktop operating systems and the ability to troubleshoot common user issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate and plan with both internal and external audiences and users.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to various stakeholders (e.g. students, alumni, faculty/staff, and employers) through email campaigns and social media.
  • Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite and with career management software (e.g Handshake) is a plus.
  • Ability to seek and identify new software for improved efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree Systems Analysis experience.
  • Ability to integrate systems using an Application Program Interface (REST, SOAP).
  • Familiarity with web analytics to inform website structure and design.
  • Understanding of how to analyze user behavior and recommend software and process changes accordingly.
  • A firm understanding of the principles and practices of web interface and user experience design is required.

  • Working knowledge of Object Oriented Programming (experience with PHP preferred).
  • Experience with relational databases and ability to write SQL queries.

  • Strong reporting and analytical skills used for tracking office KPIs, social media engagement, and Handshake usage and trends.
  • Ability to interpret and consolidate data reports for purposes of presentations and strategic decisions.
  • Ability to effectively train users with disparate technical backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with common desktop operating systems and the ability to troubleshoot common user issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate and plan with both internal and external audiences and users.
