Job Purpose

The Advanced Engineer, Electrical will be responsible for the design of Hyliion's KARNO generator's electrical system drawings and CAD packages for harnessing, panels, electronics and component mounting as it integrates into our enclosure and future products. They are a key contributor to the technical product execution of KARNO's electrical and electronics system. This position will guide engineers in design decisions and assist in release of all components within the electrical and electronics system.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Support the design and development of the electrical system for the KARNO generator
  • Create and maintain 2D layouts and 3D models for electrical system components
  • Learn and implement UL design requirements and implement into electrical component layouts in panels, wire harnesses, and electronics packaging
  • Develop and enforce standards, requirements, and specifications to ensure compliance to regulatory agencies.
  • Build and integrate prototypes into our R&D products
  • Design schematics for interconnecting components
  • Design grounding and bonding strategies for HV components
  • Design cables/harnesses for high-speed and low-speed signals
  • Collaborate closely with the various engineering teams to facilitate design and drawing releases.
  • Regularly interface with project managers and multi-disciplinary team leads to meet critical deadlines and milestones.
  • Lead technical resolutions related to manufacturing and component drawing designs.
  • Interpret customer requirements to develop detailed system and sub-system product specifications.
  • Contribute to project planning by supporting schedules and ensuring alignment with key deadlines and milestones.

Qualifications include:



  • Education, Experience and Certifications

    • 5+ years of experience in a regulated design environment
    • Bachelor's in mechanical or electrical engineering


  • Skills and Abilities

    • Proficiency in design and build of cable harnesses for instrumentation
    • Proficiency in design and build experience for electrical panel layouts and schematics
    • Proficiency in translating engineering team's needs into layouts, schematics and manufacturing drawings
    • Proficiency in understanding of electrical components, layouts, wire harnesses, and packaging
    • Proficiency in Zuken E3 Wire Harness Design
    • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD tools (e.g. Capital Electra X, AutoCAD Electrical, NX, Solidworks or similar)
    • Proven experience in design for manufacturing
    • Proven experience in working with cross-functional teams, including engineers and project managers
    • Familiarity with GD&T
    • Familiarity with UL design requirements and electrical panel standard





Role Classification and Working Conditions

This is a salaried, non-exempt-level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments.

Physical/Other Requirements



  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, by plane, automobile, etc.
