The Neonatal Resource Services Medical Directors (NRS MDs) team is within Women's Health Team within Enterprise Clinical Services (ECS). The NRS MD works together with our NRS operations team to provide clinical expertise and review data trends in the markets we manage. The position drives performance across our organization by communicating with hospital physicians and utilization management staff at client hospitals to champion best practices for evidence-based care. NRS MDs work closely with NICU nurses reviewing clinical information provided, communicate with providers as they progress care, provide utilization management (UM) reviews, and facilitate discharge planning. The NRS MD works closely with the health plans to review complex cases and data trends in the markets. The NRS MD will join a group of neonatologists at NRS where teamwork, communication, and ongoing education are valued.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Engage with a team of neonatologists and NICU nurses in the evaluation of the NICU patient
  • Review literature and develop evidence-based guidelines
  • Participate in nursing education as it relates to neonatology
  • Conduct provider telephonic review and discussion, shares tools, information and guidelines related to cost-effective health care delivery and quality of care
  • Support all clinical quality initiatives and peer review processes
  • Appropriate utilization management of cases
  • Clinical lead for healthcare affordability initiatives at the local market
  • Effectively engage and bring understanding to our external constituents such as physicians, medical and specialty societies, hospitals and hospital associations, and state regulators
  • Deliver the clinical value proposition focused on quality, affordability, and service, in support of the sales and growth activities
  • Identifying opportunities through participation in committees or market reviews
  • Participate in data analysis reviewing market trends with the Product team and health plans
  • Engage with clients reporting trends in individual markets
  • Engage with Obstetrical colleagues in Women's Health
  • Participate in weekend and holiday call coverage
  • Obtain and maintain state licensures required for role

Required Qualifications:



  • MD or DO with an active, unrestricted license
  • Board Certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
  • 5+ years of clinical practice experience after completing fellowship training
  • Solid understanding of Evidence based Medicine (EBM)
  • Proven solid PC skills, specifically using MS Word, Outlook, and Excel



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in utilization and clinical coverage review
  • Proven excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, facilitation skills
  • Proven excellent presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences

The salary range for this role is $269,500 to $425,500 annually based on full-time employment. Salary Range is defined as total cash compensation at target. The actual range and pay mix of base and bonus is variable based upon experience and metric achievement. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
