The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Prescient Structural and Computational Biology

Department Summary

Prescient Design is developing cutting-edge machine learning for drug discovery, building new methods, techniques, and systems to fundamentally transform how drugs are designed. We routinely publish in top ML conferences. As an intern, you will work alongside ML scientists and engineers on cutting-edge research projects and help turn these into software that can have a wide impact across Prescient Design, Genentech, and Roche. Your research work will pertain to zero-shot and one-shot generative protein design and predictive models for epitope and paratope determination.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Participate in cutting-edge research in machine learning and methods development with applications to drug discovery.

  • Develop high-performance, maintainable code that enables advanced methods to be widely reused across projects and teams.

  • Present results in the form of a publication, for submission to internal and external scientific conferences.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across both Prescient Design and gRED (Genentech Research and Early Development) to solve complex problems in the life sciences.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required majors:

  • Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, Physics, or related technical field.

Required skills:

  • Experience implementing deep learning models on 1D, 2D and 3D data.

  • Excellent programming skills.

  • Strong knowledge of Python.

  • Experience with PyTorch and/or Jax.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Curiosity and deep interest in solving hard problems.

  • Basic knowledge of leading methods in protein structure prediction and design.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00-$50.00 hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
