The Role:

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Senior Director, Market Intelligence and Thought Leadership to play a critical role in shaping J.D. Power's strategic direction. This senior leadership position is responsible for driving data-driven insights that reinforce J.D. Power's reputation as a leading authority in the used automotive industry.

This role will lead the creation of content that supporting initiatives and products developed by the Data and Analytics team, specifically used car and residual values. This role will oversee the development of rigorous analyses and thought leadership content that informs clients, influences industry dialogue, and engages the media. By leveraging complex data sets and market intelligence, this individual will create actionable insights that align with the organization's product vision and business objectives.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with deep expertise in the automotive industry with specific understanding of overall market trends for the new and used market. The role requires extensive experience in data analytics, market research, and thought leadership, capable of distilling complex information into impactful narratives that elevate J.D. Power's position in the market and drives engagement for our data products.

As Director, Market Intelligence & Thought Leadership, you will define and drive J.D. Power's thought leadership strategy for our used car and residual values, ensuring that our insights resonate with industry leaders, clients, and media partners. By blending advanced data analytics with compelling storytelling, you will elevate J.D. Power's position as the industry's most trusted voice for the used market, driving meaningful dialogue that informs business decisions and shapes industry conversations.

What You'll Be Doing in This Role:



  • Set the Vision and Strategy: Establish and execute a comprehensive thought leadership strategy that reinforces J.D. Power's position as an industry authority in the used market. Define key themes, narratives, and focus areas aligned with business goals and market dynamics.
  • Create Advanced Data Analysis: Develop the assembly and analysis of a diverse range of automotive market data, including new and used vehicle transaction data, residual value data, voice of the customer data, and other relevant industry datasets.
  • Uncover Actionable Insights: Identify macro and micro trends, patterns, and insights that address critical industry challenges and create opportunities for growth and innovation.
  • Create High-Impact Thought Leadership Content: Drive the development of sophisticated thought leadership materials such as white papers, industry reports, op-eds, and keynote presentations tailored for clients and industry stakeholders.
  • Translate Complex Data into Powerful Narratives: Synthesize complex data into engaging, actionable narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Leverage Visual Storytelling: Direct the creation of visually compelling data visualizations, charts, and infographics using tools such as Tableau, Excel, or equivalent platforms to enhance the impact of insights.
  • Engage Senior-Level Audiences: Present findings and strategic recommendations to clients, senior leadership, and cross-functional teams with clarity and authority.
  • Align Cross-Functional Efforts: Collaborate closely with customer success, product, and sales teams to align thought leadership content with business objectives and revenue growth strategies.
  • Stay Ahead of Market Dynamics: Maintain a pulse on evolving automotive industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies to ensure that thought leadership initiatives remain cutting-edge and relevant.
  • Define Success Metrics and ROI: Establish and manage KPIs that measure the success of thought leadership efforts, ensuring alignment with business objectives and demonstrating measurable impact on brand perception and client engagement.



Qualifications of this Role:



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business, Economics, Marketing, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Extensive Industry Experience: 10+ years of experience in data analytics, market research, or related roles, with a proven track record in the automotive industry and expertise in understanding core micro and macro-economic principles related to the new and used automotive market.
  • Deep Domain Knowledge: Prior exposure to automotive industry trends, automotive finance, OEM product and pricing strategy, residual value data, or consumer behavior analysis in the automotive sector.
  • Proven Thought Leadership Expertise: Demonstrated success in developing and delivering high-impact thought leadership content.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in data analysis tools (Excel, SQL) and data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent).
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a strong emphasis on storytelling and translating complex data into actionable insights.
  • Strong Project Leadership and Prioritization: Ability to manage multiple priorities, lead complex projects, and align stakeholders toward common objectives.
  • Client and Media Engagement: Experience engaging with clients, contributing to industry publications, and participating in media discussions on industry trends.
