The Music Therapist 1 is a professional with the skill and knowledge to conduct thorough assessments and implement developmentally and psychosocially appropriate music therapy interventions for patients. The Music Therapist must have the skills to provide emotional support, reflective listening and maintain therapeutic relationships. The Music Therapist must also provide individual and/or group music therapy to support patients and their family members. Supervision of volunteers and students and provision of introductory guidance to interns as appropriate is also required.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Current BC-MT Board Certified Music Therapist
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree Music Therapy or equivalent degree
- Knowledge of human development and theory.
- Knowledge of appropriate Music Therapy interventions with patients and families.
- Knowledge of Music Therapy theory and how to apply theory to practice.
- Ability to effectively communicate with parents, patients, and siblings about social, emotional, developmental, and patient education needs.
- Knowledge of group dynamics and ability to facilitate structured and unstructured group music therapy.
- Knowledge of Music Therapy assessments and how to document and implement their findings.
- Ability to document assessments, interventions and plans in medical records.
- Ability to work both independently and in an interdisciplinary team setting.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.

Department Overview
The Child Life & Creative Arts Therapy Department works with patients, families, and the medical staff to provide services that meet the unique psychosocial and developmental needs of each child and family. The department focuses on the emotional well-being of hospitalized children and their families to reduce anxiety and promote coping.

Music Therapists utilize music to promote healing by offering interventions for self-expression to help patients cope with symptoms, stress, or traumatic experiences.
