PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Coordinates communication and information flow between all vessels, employees, customers,
company managers, vendors and regulatory agencies in a professional and courteous manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
1. Utilize electronic dispatching and vessel tracking system to enter HTB/YB harbor activities and
sailings. Utilizes the Young Brothers Barge Daily Movement sheet for scheduling berthing of
barges.
2. Communicates with all tugs at sea using VHF, SSB (single side band) and NEXTEL
radio/cellular phones.
3. Prepares Daily Dispatch Notification of vessel arrivals and departures.
4. Regularly inputs data using desk-top computer. Maintains log (dispatch/radio log) of all
important activities with harbor and inter-island tugs.
5. Informs employees of normal vessel manning as scheduled by management, clarifies any
scheduled job assignment questions for crew and communicates to crews any changes to job
assignments.
OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinates vessel refueling.
2. Carries out required Company emergency procedures, when necessary.
3. Monitors and reports any unusual conditions around company area after hours.
4. On occasion makes vessel and/or crew dispatch decisions without management intervention.
5. Performs other duties and functions as directed by management personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works indoors in a noisy environment with heavy foot traffic.
Equipment use: Uses VHF, SSB, NEXTEL radio/cellular phones, personal computer, fax and copy
machine.
Work hours: Normal work week and hours vary. Works five (5) consecutive, eight (8) hour days;
shifts are either 0700-1500, 1500-2300, or 2300-0700. May be required to work over-time, week ends, and holidays to accommodate operational needs.

1. Mathematical ability: Applies mathematical knowledge to compute time and other data.
2. Attention to detail: Maintains electronic dispatching and vessel tracking data system and
other logs accurately.
3. Concentration: Concentrates to ensure safety of vessel and crew. Must be able to handle
multiple tasks, while maintaining a professional and courteous attitude.
4. Alertness: Alerts personnel to changing situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Sitting: Sits when writing in logs, conducting phone or radio calls, working with computer.
2. Climbing/Balancing: Seldom or rarely
3. Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Stoops/kneels to pick up small boxes/objects in
work area.
4. Squatting: Squats to pick up small boxes/objects in work/pier area.

7. Standing: Stands when viewing work or pier area, inspecting radio.
8. Walking: Walks to various work areas to speak to others, on pier to perform security checks.
9. Running: Seldom or Rarely
10. Reaching: Reaches for phone and radio.
11. Throwing (overhead, low level): Seldom or Rarely
12. Handling: Handles phone and radio.
13. Fingering: Fingers when filing paperwork, operating phone and radio, working with computer.
14. Eye-Hand-Foot Coordination: Constantly, performing administrative duties, viewing
work/pier area
15. Vision (corrected, depth, wide field, color): Views work/pier area for out-of-place objects or
unusual activities, reads logs and instructions, works with computer.
16. Pushing/Pulling/Lifting/Carrying (up to 25 pounds): Pushes/pulls desk drawers, lifts/carries
small objects.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS (Licenses, Degrees, Certificates):
Must possess a valid FCC Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
Skills/Knowledge: Must demonstrate being professional and possess excellent communication
skills to able to read, write, speak and understand communications clearly when dealing with
customers and co-workers. Must be able to operate the telephone and radios properly and
professionally. Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and
E-doc systems. Must be able to keyboard 35 wpm. Must have HS diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: At least one year of marine VHF/SSB radio experience preferred. At least (3) years
general office or administrative experience preferred.
