Essential Job Responsibilities:
SSA Marine, a Blackstone portfolio company, is seeking a Senior Manager-Strategy & Research. This position will play a critical role in driving strategic initiatives by delivering comprehensive market analyses, identifying growth opportunities, and evaluating competitive dynamics. This position requires a data-driven and strategic thinker with the ability to synthesize complex information to support decision-making within SSA Marine/Carrix's global portfolio.
- Conduct in-depth market analyses at the terminal, port, and country levels to identify strengths, trends, and opportunities.
- Monitor economic, regulatory, and industry developments affecting the global shipping and terminal sectors.
- Develop actionable insights to inform business strategies.
- Evaluate organic and inorganic growth opportunities for their strategic fit within SSA Marine/Carrix's portfolio.
- Prepare business cases, including financial modeling and scenario analyses, for new investments, partnerships, or acquisitions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on growth priorities.
- Analyze competitive landscapes at terminal, port, regional, and international levels, focusing on terminal operators and shipping lines.
- Track competitor strategies, performance metrics, and market positioning.
- Provide insights to enhance SSA Marine/Carrix's competitive advantage.
- Participate in strategy initiatives, including portfolio reviews, long-term planning, and market entry assessments.
- Assist in the development of presentations and reports for executive leadership and board-level discussions.
- Support the broader strategy team with research and analytics.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including operations, finance, and commercial teams, to align research efforts with organizational objectives.
- Engage with external partners, consultants, and industry bodies to gather data and insights.
- Continuously refine methodologies for market and competitive analysis to ensure accuracy, relevance, and impact.
- Stay informed about emerging tools and technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, that can enhance research or data analytics capabilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in market research, finance and valuation, competitive analysis, strategy, and/or related fields.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree is strongly preferred.
- Background in the maritime, transportation, or logistics industry is required for this position. Experience working for a marine terminal operator preferred; additional experience working for a shipping line is a plus.
- Proven track record of supporting strategic decision-making with data-driven insights.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in data analysis or visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese, in addition to English, is highly preferred.
- Ability to synthesize complex information and present clear recommendations.
- Familiarity with financial modeling and scenario analysis.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support research and stakeholder engagement.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No Work Environment:
- Exposure to computer screens.
- The noise level in work environment is usually moderate.
- Required hybrid work schedule, at least 3 days/week in office.
- Required job duties are performed in a professional office environment.
