Position Highlights |
The W.A. Franke Honors College is seeking candidates for a Career-Track Assistant Professor of Practice who can contribute to the Health and Human Values (HHV) minor. Ideal candidates will have a passion for applying humanistic methodologies to critically examine the social, cultural, and power dynamics of health, healthcare, medicine, and the biomedical sciences. HHV students predominately aspire to careers in the health professions, and the Franke Faculty share a strong commitment to fostering an experiential learning environment that emphasizes the real-world application of theories and concepts, with a focus on understanding and addressing health equity and justice.
The Assistant Professor of Practice will first contribute to the HHV minor; however, it is preferred that applicants possess scholarly interests that also contribute to other Franke Honors academic programs such as the Future Earth Resilience (FER) minor, the Creative Intelligence and Innovation major/minor, and the Civic Leadership Certificate, or the robust interdisciplinary general education course offerings. The position will begin in Fall 2025 for the 2025-2026 Academic Year. This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Teaching - 60%
- Teach four 3-unit HNRS Courses for the academic calendar year.
- This will incorporate the introductory course and the capstone course in the Health and Human Values minor.
- Teach either:
- Two 1-unit HNRS Courses for the academic calendar year, or
- One 1-unit UNIV 101 Honors section and one 1-unit HNRS course, or equivalent as approved by supervisor.
- Service - 20%
- Participate in the admission and advising of students in the Health and Human Values minor, in collaboration with other faculty.
- Coordinate with appropriate faculty committees, college staff, and leadership on building community partnerships, identifying internship opportunities, and selecting elective courses for the Health and Human Values minor.
- Serve on internal Honors committees such as scholarships, curriculum, awards, and/or a project of special interest.
- Hold appropriate office hours each week (typically 1.5 hours per week per 3-unit class taught)
- Research/Scholarship/Creative Inquiry - 20%
- Engage in and disseminate scholarship related to areas of teaching/learning, curriculum/pedagogy development or interdisciplinary research.
- Scholarly activity includes all phases of the research and creative productive process, from background investigations through publication and dissemination.
- All additional teaching, service, and scholarship must follow the internal Honors Faculty Annual Performance Review and Policy Guidelines.
**This workload distribution is subject to change based on the needs of the college or performance criteria. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Graduate-level work in an interdisciplinary field or combination of disciplines.
- A record of interdisciplinary, experiential, and innovative teaching or scholarship with a critical perspective on health, illness, disability, medicine, the health professions, and/or biomedical sciences.
- A demonstrated commitment to exploring health-related themes in regionally significant contexts such as border issues, desert environments, and/or those that complement the university's HSI mission and the work of the Honors-HSI consortium.

Minimum Qualifications |
- PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.
- Teaching and research interests focused on
critically examining health, illness, disability, medicine, the health professions, biomedical sciences, and/or related fields using humanistic methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with student-centered teaching with an emphasis on active learning and creating a dynamic and supportive environment that prioritizes student engagement and empowerment.
