What You Will Do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Geotechnical Dams & Hydraulics team in Valley Forge, PA as a full-time employee. Candidates located within the Philadelphia metro area are encouraged to apply. This is a hybrid role.

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead geotechnical engineers and assist project managers in planning and overseeing subsurface explorations and performing analyses for transportation, facilities, water resources and other types of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading geotechnical staff in planning and overseeing field explorations, construction projects, laboratory testing, and geotechnical design and analysis, including shallow and deep foundations, stability and seepage analyses of earthen embankments, settlement estimates, earth retaining systems, and ground improvement assessments for complex sites.
  • Developing or reviewing comprehensive design packages, including geotechnical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Collaborating within a team environment to deliver geotechnical engineering services.
  • Serving as the lead geotechnical engineer and/or project manager on diverse engineering projects for public and private sector clients.
  • Developing proposals and contributing to business development activities.
  • Assisting senior staff in managing client relationships, supporting business growth, and expanding the scope of existing services.
Education | Experience:

What this role requires:

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • 15-20 years of relevant post-graduation working experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required, preferably in Pennsylvania (PA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and geotechnical software, including gINT, ALLPILE, GEO-SLOPE, GRLWEAP, LPILE, PLAXIS, SHAFT, and SETTLE3D.
  • Strong analytical skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

What we prefer:

  • A Master's Degree with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Experience with Pennsylvania transportation projects/clients, such as PennDOT and SEPTA

Compensation: A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $130,000 - $160,000. Salary dependent upon experience and geographic location.
