External Investing Group (XIG)

The External Investing Group ("XIG") provides investors with investment and advisory solutions, across leading hedge fund managers, private equity and private credit funds, real estate managers, public equity strategies, fixed income strategies and ESG (impact) strategies across all asset classes. XIG manages globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, secondary-market investments, co-investments, and seed-capital investments. With over 350 professionals across 13 offices around the world, XIG provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management, and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs' market insights and risk management expertise. JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

XIG Private Markets Platform Management

The XIG Private Markets Platform Management team is broadly responsible for portfolio implementation, liquidity risk management, portfolio construction and monitoring, external manager on-boarding and oversight, private market deal closing, valuation models for level 3 assets, overseeing the business control framework as well as a number of important strategic initiatives. The team works closely with the investment and client portfolio solutions areas within XIG, and with functional teams across the broader firm including Central Trading, Fund Accounting, Operations, Technology, Legal and Compliance.

This role involves partnering with senior portfolio managers to develop and execute appropriate deal closing and booking across our private market's portfolios. The Associate will also act as direct point of contact for the Investment team for a designated investment vertical.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Key contributor to the Deal Closing & Onboarding function which is responsible for XIG business operations that involve and impact external investment managers and investments. This includes management of products and platforms and maintaining constructive relationships with external managers. Deal Closing & Onboarding is a dedicated team within XIG Platform Management.
  • Significant interaction with senior members across XIG investment and client teams, GSAM Federation and external investment managers.
  • Material time will be spent engaging with the XIG private markets deal teams, external counsel and internal parties to negotiate and close complex private investment deals.
  • Involvement in the full deal closing lifecycle including managing numerous internal teams, investment structuring analysis and legal and commercial term negotiations to ensure deals are closed with optimal terms for our investors
  • Responsibility for overall deal closing management which includes a deep understanding of liquidity and funding elements of investment deals and XIG products as well as onboarding the deals into our internal systems.
  • In-depth partnership with the XIG investment team to design and execute closing processes
  • Play a key role in product management activities with a focus on profitability, efficiency and scalability
  • Partner with various XIG teams in evaluating investment opportunities and platforms
  • Active involvement in XIG-wide projects



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • At least 2 years of overall experience in a relevant role, preferably within asset management
  • Desire to develop an in-depth understanding of private market investment structures and platforms, market strategies. Additionally, keen interest in understanding private market commercial, legal and tax terms
  • Demonstrated orientation toward managing time sensitive and business critical initiatives and negotiations
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong organizational skills to oversee production of a high volume of quality work within tight timeframes
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Experience in technology projects is a plus
