Clinical Nurse Specialist - Intensive Care Nursery BCHSF ClinicalNurseSpecialists Full Time 83437BR Job Summary The Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Intensive Care Nursery must possess in- depth knowledge and clinical expertise in Neonatal Intensive Care. The CNS has continued responsibilities for clinical practice, education, consultation, research and departmental leadership and is accountable to the Director of Perinatal Services. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a positive approach to challenges with an ability and passion to practice evidence-based nursing and educate staff to the highest level of nursing care. Outstanding communication skills and an ability to effectively adapt to an ever-changing clinical environment required. The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $209,447 - $235,840 (Annual Rate). To learn more about the benefits of working at UCSF, including total compensation, please visit: https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/compensation-and-benefits/index.html Department Description The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) is a level IV NICU, founded in 1964, is a regional tertiary center and has the proud distinction of being one of the first neonatal intensive care units in the world. In addition to caring for extremely premature infants, the ICN also cares for infants with congenital anomalies in need of evaluation and surgical interventions. The ICN opened the first Neuro Intensive care unit for newborns in 2008. Today, the ICN continues to enjoy a reputation for being at the forefront of innovation in the fields of neonatology and fetal treatment. Neonatologists, neurologists, radiologists and nurses work to improve neuro developmental outcomes in very premature infants and full-term babies who are at high risk of neurological injury or have clinical evidence of encephalopathy, seizures or stroke. The ICN provides state of the art care for infants with neurological, gastrointestinal, renal and skeletal, cardiac and respiratory diseases. We are one of a few centers in Northern California that provides ECMO and are recognized as an ECMO Center of Excellence. Staff nurses are the backbone of the ICN. They provide comprehensive, compassionate and highly specialized care to the most fragile of infants and their families. In addition to providing direct patient care, staff nurses participate on unit-level committees, ensuring that each staff member has an active voice in the operation and function of the unit. Required Qualifications A minimum of 3 years of RN experience in a level 3 or 4 Intensive Care Nursery including both medical and surgical patient populations Master's degree in nursing or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training. Registered Nurse in the State of California Certified CA Clinical Nurse Specialist, or licensure / certification in another advanced nurse practice discipline. Active American Heart Association CPR certification Active American Heart Association NRP certification In-depth knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice and patient / family educational consulting and resources. Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly-complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution. Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and direction to nursing staff, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies as required. Excellent skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey highly complex and / or sensitive information in a clear and concise manner. Preferred Qualifications Prior CNS experience in an Intensive Care Nursery License/Certification Registered Nurse in the State of California Certified CA Clinical Nurse Specialist, or licensure / certification in another advanced nurse practice discipline.
