Who You'll Work With
You will be part of McKinsey's Client Service Risk (CSR) function. Client Service Risk's mission is to enable McKinsey's client impact and innovation, while managing risks to our clients, people and firm.
You will be based in one of our US offices and you will be a core member of the North America SHaPE team within Client Service Risk. In this role you will report to the Associate Director of Risk, SHaPE, Healthcare North America with primary responsibility for the private healthcare sector in the United States. You will work closely with CSR colleagues, Client Service Risk Committee members, SHaPE Risk Sounding Board members, regional sector and domain leaders, client service partners and colleagues in other professional functions, including Legal, Compliance and Communications.
Your impact within our firm
As the Risk Manager with primary responsibility for all private healthcare domains within SHaPE you will be responsible for providing strategic, integrative advice to SHaPE sector and regional leadership on how the Firm can most effectively manage the multi-faceted and complex risks that arise by virtue of serving private sector healthcare systems and services clients in the United States.
In this role you will own primary responsibility for identifying, analyzing, and resolving client service risk questions related to healthcare engagements, and advise client-serving teams on risk mitigation steps. You will lead review of higher-risk and complex cases, and will prepare briefings and recommendations for the Client Service Risk Committee (CSRC) or associated bodies thereof. You will also collaborate closely with our Legal, Compliance, and Communications colleagues to conduct periodic reviews of recommendations and deliverables associated with higher-risk or complex
cases.
The successful candidate will combine a deep risk-ownership mindset in these areas, as well as outstanding judgment, to manage complex and time-critical issues and act as a peer counselor to the healthcare partner risk leads and SHaPE regional sector lead
Your qualifications and skills
  • Bachelor's degree; JD or master's degree
  • 5+ years' professional experience in legal, professional services and/or risk, with a preference for experience in the healthcare industry
  • Demonstrated record of subject matter expertise in key subject areas (e.g., healthcare systems and services, regulatory risk, privacy, and reputational risk)
  • Knowledge and experience on health care claims compliance (e.g., practices to ensure all claims, billing, and coding of claims for healthcare services and products are accurate and in line with regulatory requirements) is desirable
  • Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage complex, sensitive and time-critical issues and to handle ambiguity
  • Demonstrated track record managing multiple priorities; strong project management skills
  • Strong personal presence and credibility, cultivates trust-based, counselor relationships with aptitude for consensus-building
  • Solutions-oriented and resilient; comfortable engaging in challenging discussions with senior colleagues, balancing robustness and persistence with diplomacy, flexibility and tact
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including ability to craft clear, concise, and pragmatic work product catered to specific internal audiences

For new joiners for this role in Canada and/or the United States, including all office locations where the job may be performed, a reasonable estimated range is $159,200 - $212,100 in USD and $153,000 - $204,000 in CAD - to help you understand what you can expect. This reflects our best estimate of the lowest to highest salary for this role at the time of this posting, ensuring you have a clear picture right from the start, though it's important to remember that actual salaries may vary. Factors like your office location, your unique blend of experience and skills, start date and our current organizational needs all play a part in determining the final figure. Certain roles are also eligible for bonuses, subject to McKinsey's discretion and based on factors such as individual and/or organizational performance.
