Description

Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a talented, licensed, Senior Clinical Psychologist to work within the Clinical Services Division. The Department may choose to underfill this position as a Clinical Psychologist. Waukesha County is a recognized leader in providing cutting-edge, evidenced-based assessment and intervention of substance use and mental health disorders, with a variety of long-term grants in place to sustain nationally recognized opioid use prevention and treatment programs. Within the Clinical Services Division, the psychologists support all service areas through the provision of psychological evaluations, and individual and group therapy. They also provide clinical supervision to practicum students and dually certified master's-prepared clinicians, consultation to other divisions within HHS, and are involved in a variety of initiatives to improve the lives of Waukesha County residents. Applicants demonstrating broad experience in assessment and treatment across all age groups and a variety of diagnostic categories, including substance use disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, court-ordered populations, are particularly encouraged to apply.

This work assignment is based in the Integrative Services Unit (outpatient clinic), located in the new Human Services Center. The schedule will be determined upon hire. There is NO on-call requirement for this position.

Example of Duties

Under direction to perform professional work providing clinical supervision and consultation; to provide psychological testing and psychotherapy in a variety of settings for clients of all ages; and to perform other duties as required.

  1. Provides clinical supervision, and consultation with multi-disciplinary department staff, including supervision of psychological assessments performed by non-licensed staff.
  2. With appropriate hospital privileges, admits, directs treatment, writes non-medical orders, makes court recommendations, prescribes treatment, and discharges patients from an inpatient psychiatric facility.
  3. Administers and interprets psychological tests including projective, personality, intelligence, and neuropsychological assessments to clients with severe behavioral or emotional problems.
  4. Interprets and prepares detailed reports of psychological findings, including test results, diagnostic impressions, and behavior analysis; and makes recommendations for treatment.
  5. Provides psychotherapeutic services in a variety of settings to individuals and groups to treat social, personal, developmental, behavioral, and/or mental disorders.
  6. Conducts mandated client staffings and review of the cases assigned to clinical staff.
  7. Provides clinical consultation to interdivisional staffings, reviews, and discussions; as well as to groups such as community agencies, organizations, schools and courts.
  8. Contributes clinical input for planning and evaluation efforts in the development of departmental programs.
  9. Under direction, handles and responds to patient complaints, provides written response when necessary, and prepares mandated annual summary.
  10. Provides treatment to those on conditional release under Chapter 971 of Wisconsin State Statutes; assesses individuals in criminal proceedings.
  11. Reviews crisis risk assessments performed by clinical crisis interventions for clients of all age groups.
  12. Provides court related clinical duties such as assessments, testimony, reports, and recommendations.
  13. Completes documentation for billing of services and maintains mandated clinical documentation.
  14. Provides professional development training to department staff and community agencies.
  15. Directs the day-to-day activities of the Psychometric Technician.
  16. Provides clinical site supervision for advanced doctoral students.
  17. Participates in various meetings, such as unit staff meetings and strategic planning.
  18. Provides crisis debriefing following critical incidents.
  19. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with clients and their families, staff, other professionals, agencies, and the general public.
  20. Performs emergency government duties as assigned in event of Waukesha County Emergency government declaration.
  21. Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of clinical psychology, including psychological assessment.
  2. Thorough knowledge of psychopathology, mental health principles, and techniques of psychotherapy.
  3. Considerable knowledge of human service organizations, mental health, and other community resources.
  4. Considerable knowledge of Wisconsin State Statutes Chapters 51 and 55.
  5. Considerable knowledge of applicable codes, rules, statutes and regulations.
  6. Considerable knowledge of the sign and symptoms of reactions to psychotropic medications used in the treatment of mental disorders.
  7. Considerable knowledge of techniques to identify clients with alcohol or substance use problems.
  8. Considerable knowledge of confidentiality statutes and requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
  9. Working knowledge of computerized department program software, internet access, and database, spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  10. Ability to utilize electronic health record, word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
  11. Ability to provide clinical consultation to a multi-disciplinary staff.
  12. Ability to administer and interpret a wide variety of psychological tests.
  13. Ability to assign, direct, review and approve the work of clinical staff.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  15. Ability to write detailed psychological reports.
  16. Ability to apply the principles, techniques, and practices of clinical psychology, including psychological assessment in formulating diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations.
  17. Ability to interpret psychosocial and DSM V diagnoses to individuals and families.
  18. Ability to develop treatment plans and to provide psychosocial and psychotherapeutic treatment services to individuals, families, and groups.
  19. Ability to participate in multi-disciplinary decision making and treatment planning.
  20. Ability to respond appropriately to mental health emergency situations and utilize crisis intervention techniques and procedures.
  21. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and their families, staff, other professionals, agencies, and the general public.
  22. Ability to effectively interact with sensitivity with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, and persons of all ages and lifestyles.

Minimum Qualifications

Senior Clinical Psychologist Minimum Training and Experience requirements:

  1. Graduation from a recognized college or university with a doctoral degree in psychology or possession of a doctoral degree equivalency as determined by the Psychology Examining Board of the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
  2. Possession of or current eligibility for a license to practice psychology in the State of Wisconsin.
  3. Listing or eligibility for listing in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology is desirable.

The 2025 salary range for Clinical Psychologist is: $39.46 - $52.18.

Clinical Psychologist Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
  1. Master's degree from a recognized college or university in psychology, educational psychology, or a closely related field including coursework and practice in test administration and interpretation.
  2. Currently enrolled at a recognized college or university in a doctoral psychology program; must attain doctoral degree in psychology within one (1) year of employment.
  3. Possession of or current eligibility for a license to practice psychology in the State of Wisconsin.
