Database Administrator III*

Position Description

  • Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the availability, security, and integrity of the enterprise database environments. Implements data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance. Resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. Demonstrates knowledge in a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures of relational database administration and other related areas. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Develops, mentors, and trains junior database administrators. May lead and direct the work of others. Provides consultation on projects and is considered to be a contributor. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Develops and enforces policies and procedures for ensuring the availability, security, and integrity of the enterprise database environments.
  • Designs, implements, maintains, and automates the appropriate backup and recovery policies, procedures and architecture required to recover the enterprise database environments in accordance with the business continuity requirements.
  • Provides training to others as required.
  • Works on project teams providing consultation and technical leadership on the configuration, architecture and capacity required to support the organization's web based and client/server software applications.
  • Partners with various IT staff to resolve issues involving corporate databases and web/client server software applications.
  • Serves on-call, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, responding to database related issues.
  • Reviews enhancements to production databases performed by other Database Administrators prior to implementation to ensure adherence to corporate database standards and quality control.
  • Maintains schema objects and data access privileges.
  • Monitors, optimizes, and allocates physical data storage.
  • Provides software installation, patching, and upgrades.

  • Database Administrator III
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related degree + 5 years experience in the Information Technology field.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills enabling creative solutions to business and technical problems.
  • Must have solid interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, clients, and various technical personnel within IT so that all facets of the system are interpreted and implemented correctly, while maintaining professional and harmonious relationships.
  • Experience in the following areas is preferred:
    1) Linux and Microsoft Windows system administration best practices and fundamentals.
    2) Database Design, Disaster Recovery, Security, Storage, Networking, Backup, and Maintenance Best Practices.
    3) Database Optimizations and Enhancements.
    4) Database Administration in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
    5) Database Triage and Resolutions.
    6) Database Management, Monitoring Tools, and Features - SolarWinds, Database Performance Analyzer, SQL Tuning Advisor, SQL Developer, TOAD, SQL Server Management Studio, Database Security Analyzer Tool, Automatic Workload Repository, Oracle Enterprise Manager, DataGuard, SQL Server AlwaysOn, MSSQL Replication, Oracle Advanced Queuing, ORAchk, PGAdmin, Partitioning, SQL Server Reporting Services, Warehouse, Cohesity, Xming, putty, JIRA, WINSCP.

    Compensation Information:
    $91,990 - $114,990 (min. - mid.)

    Database Administrator II
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related degree + 2 years experience in the Information Technology field or Associate's Degree in related field + 4 years experience or High School Diploma/GED + 6 years experience.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills enabling creative solutions to business and technical problems.
  • Must have solid interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, clients, and various technical personnel within IT so that all facets of the system are interpreted and implemented correctly, while maintaining professional and harmonious relationships.
  • Experience in the following areas is preferred:
    1) Linux and Microsoft Windows system administration best practices and fundamentals.
    2) Database Design, Disaster Recovery, Security, Storage, Networking, Backup, and Maintenance Best Practices.
    3) Database Optimizations and Enhancements.
    4) Database Administration in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
