The Opportunity

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, is inviting applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position's expected start date is August 2025.

This is a teaching-focused position with a general expectation of teaching 4 sections per semester in the fall and spring semesters plus optional summer courses and moderate service. This position has no research expectations, although opportunities for research may exist. Non-tenure track faculty members at Embry-Riddle are eligible for future promotion based on job performance and length of service.

The successful candidate will have a strong desire to focus on innovative and high-quality instruction in a collegial and collaborative environment and will hold an earned PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with prior teaching and/or industrial experience are encouraged to apply. An interest in, and experience with, advising student project teams is highly desirable.

Candidates are expected to be capable of teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering and engineering sciences. Course sections typically range from 15-40 students. Particular areas of interest include: dynamics, machine design, vibrations, vehicle dynamics, and capstone design.

This position requires physical presence at the Daytona Beach Campus. Relocation to the Daytona Beach, FL, area is required; applicants seeking purely remote work will not be considered. Relocation assistance may be available.

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, serves over 500 students at the BS, MS, and PhD levels. The department features undergraduate tracks in High-Performance Vehicles, Robotics & Autonomous Systems, Energy Systems, and Biomedical Systems. The ME department places a heavy emphasis on experiential education and sponsors a wide variety of student projects including Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Solar District Cup, EcoCAR, RobotX, IGVC, SUAS, RoboBoat, and RoboSub. The department also has a strong profile in applied research in areas such as robotics and autonomous systems, energy systems, advanced powertrains, and biomedical.
