The Accounting Data Reporting Supervisor manages activities of the Finance Department Insurance Data Unit which, depending on the underwriting segment, include but are not limited to insurance data collection, data transfers, data manipulation and/or analysis, accounting, cash activity, and financial and certain defined statistical reporting, of all underwriting segments and programs of National Indemnity Group property and casualty insurance companies.

This position will be with National Indemnity Company in Omaha, NE and eligible for hybrid up to 50% on a quarterly basis. This position IS NOT ELIGIBLE for employment visa sponsorship.

What will you do?

  • Manages and mentors supervisors and staff of assigned IDU sub-units

  • Develops, refines, proposes, and implements strategies to efficiently collect, manipulate, and analyze data to meet on-going, emerging, or follow-up requirements

  • Reviews and approves allocations of expenses such as regulatory body membership dues, fees to other insurance organizations and other complex assessments to various separate insurance segments and companies.

  • Manages actions required to create and update the Finance Insurance Data Translation System (IDTS) and Financial Data Base (FDB) structures and activities.

  • Interviews job candidates, initiates or recommends personnel actions including hiring, promotions, transfers, disciplinary methods, performance appraisal discussions, salary adjustments, and Unit staffing levels.

  • Coordinates and manages execution of procedures to produce data files required to generate reports such as underwriting segment IBNR and Supplemental Reserves, contingent commissions, and certain underwriting and reserve related Statutory reporting pages and schedules, and other standard and specialized Finance Department reports.

  • Supports State Regulatory Reporting Unit, Finance Department and/or other Company senior management who require specialized defined detail or summarized data by meeting with stakeholders to outline data needs and proposing the methodology to provide requested information.

  • Reviews and approves internal control compliance documentation and a variety of IDU regulatory filings such as complex Risk Based Capital Reports, underwriting exhibits such as Insurance Expense Exhibits, allocations, and reports for internal and external use by managers auditors, BH corporate, or actuaries. Identifies and discusses unusual trends or anomalies with constituents.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Three to Five or more years work experience.

  • Personal computer and related software such as Excel, Access, and Visual Basic, spreadsheet and database application development

  • Accounting workflow analysis and automated accounting systems development (preferred)

  • Insurance and reinsurance statutory accounting and operations (preferred)

  • Company and department practices and procedures (preferred)
