Overview
Blanding Upward Bound is part of the Federal TRIO Grant Program that assists high school students; who qualify, in developing the academic skills and motivation needed to successfully complete high school, enter college upon graduation, and complete a higher education degree within six years. Blanding Upward Bound serves over 100 high school students from Navajo Mountain, Monument Valley, Montezuma Creek, Red Mesa, Blanding and Monticello.

Responsibilities
  • Provide coordination and assistance in the strategic planning and management of the TRIO Upward Bound program initiatives. Report to the Project Director.
  • Prepares travel arrangements for college tours, site visits, summer component program, and extended field trips in accordance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed student records; collects, compiles, and analyzes data for annual performance reports.
  • Coordinates instructional Upward Bound program initiatives including motivational academic and non-academic activities, services, and implementation of events.
  • Requires out-of-town travel, including overnight stays during the academic year and summer program. Has the ability to work a flexible and demanding schedule during the summer program.
  • May manage communications of the program's vision and goals via social media, newsletters, and/or mailing lists.
  • Coordinates communication and assists high school advisors as needed.
  • Serves on various University committees.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree plus two years of work experience with disadvantaged students from diverse backgrounds in promoting education opportunities, college admission and financial aid OR an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Knowledge of TRIO Upward Bound programs or other programs focused on students who are low-income, first generation, at-risk or academically disadvantaged.
  • Working knowledge of computers and computer applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Working knowledge of project budgets, records and travel management.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Possess well-developed written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Three years work experience with TRIO programs or other programs focused on students who are low-income, first-generation, at-risk or academically disadvantaged.
  • Management experience in promoting educational opportunities including higher education enrollment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of research and information-gathering methods and procedures.
  • If applicable, knowledge of grant development, implementation, budgeting, fiscal control, and reporting.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Program-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as described in the recruitment notice.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision-making, problem-solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
