About Us The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions. PCORI is committed to continually seeking input from a broad range of stakeholders to guide its work. Position Summary The intern will participate in a project to better understand how patient peer reviews are used by editors and authors of final research reports. The project will involve developing a coding scheme to identify the most useful and least useful comments in patient peer reviews and compare those with whether the peer review associate editors highlight any patient reviewer comments and whether report authors respond, with changes, to the patient reviewer comments. The project is part of an ongoing program to improve the usefulness of patient peer reviews and potentially encourage the use of patient peer reviewers in journal reviews. Pay Range and Employment Status: Interns shall be classified as temporary employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits.
Required Experience Preferred candidates will be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, postgraduate, medical school, or PhD degree program with a focus on research methods social sciences with research methods (i.e., public health, psychology, sociology). The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate familiarity with qualitative research through coursework or experience. Experience with data visualization, data tracking, and data analysis are also preferred.
