The Detroit High Voltage Battery Engineering team is responsible for the development, validation and release of components and sub-systems for a variety of powertrain combinations within our Daimler Truck battery electric portfolio. We rigorously test each product to ensure it meets the high durability and performance expectations of our customers in whatever their application. Working closely with our international colleagues, we provide solutions that are globally best in class while meeting local needs, including legislative requirements. Position offers a starting salary range of $121,500 - $155,500 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, andexperience

What You Drive at DTNA

  • Lead development, validation, & release of battery management system (BMS) control strategies on multiple test benches and utilize knowledge to integrate & automate test cycles for the test bench.
  • Establish test procedures (including instrumentation, fixturing, test environment) to fulfill DVPR requirements.
  • Utilize structured problem solving methods to identify root cause and integrate corrective actions into new or existing BMS software.
  • Analyze data, draw conclusions, and provide recommendations of technical results to the management team.
  • Leverage strong relationships with Global counterparts to efficiently test and release BMS software.
  • Independently schedule work including issuing work orders, monitor progress, and resolve problems in order to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Generate ideas to reduce product cost and improve quality.
  • Create project plans and timelines, and assist management with defining budget requirements.
  • Promptly resolve plant build issues and field problems.
  • Lead cross-functional activities with regional and Global counterparts in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, and Suppliers.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain professional/social interaction in a multi-cultural and International environment.
  • Improve knowledge and skills through training; actively identify areas of potential self-improvement and alert management of opportunities for training.
  • Lead initiatives to improve product quality, process efficiency, and employee satisfaction.
  • Maintain daily record of work hours by project.
  • Other activities as necessary and/or assigned.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Computer Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology (ABET Accredited University).
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in the High Voltage Battery, Automotive, or Commercial Vehicle Industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of software controls development experience.
  • Strong electrical or mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work with and get work done effectively through others.
  • Ability to think independently and critically to formulate plans and make decisions in a fast paced, emerging and sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to work in a truly global environment with different cultures to collaborate successfully.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and inform management of any barriers.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Office and database tools.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%.

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Master of Science or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Computer Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology (ABET Accredited University).
  • Ability to develop Powertrain control strategies.
  • 5+ years of Powertrain development experience.
  • High voltage certification.
  • Understand and speak German language.
