Postdoctoral Associate - Xiao Wang Lab

Broad Institute
United States, Massachusetts, Cambridge
Jan 16, 2025

Description & Requirements

The Xiao Wang group at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT is looking for an exceptional and energetic postdoctoral fellow to join a rapidly growing, multidisciplinary research focused on developing and applying molecular and imaging tools (e.g. in situ RNA sequencing) to understand the complexity of the biological systems.

This postdoctoral position will provide an exciting opportunity to develop new sequencing/imaging strategies for multiscale brain mapping in a vibrant and interdisciplinary environment and collaborate with team members from diverse backgrounds (chemistry, biophysics, genomics and neuroscience). We emphasize the research training and career development for all lab members, and the candidate will have chances to interact with the research teams within Broad Institute and also the broader community in MIT, Harvard and the Harvard-affiliated hospitals across Boston.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in physical/biological science, neuroscience, bioengineering or related disciplines
  • Hands-on experience with microscopy, molecular biology, animal models, and gene delivery vectors (e.g. AAV and lentivirus)
  • Self-motivated, creative, persistent, responsible, attention to details, good analytical and problem-solving skills, fast learner

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fluorescence microscopy (living/preserved samples), electron microscopy (SEM/TEM), or CLEM (correlative light and electron microscopy)
  • Design and generate AAV or lentivirus vector for the expression of transgenes in desired subcellular locations and desired cell populations
  • Design, characterization and engineering of RNA: e.g. in situ hybridization, microarray, gel electrophoresis, HPLC, SELEX, NGS and single-cell RNA sequencing; RNA structure, RNA modification/editing, RNA localization, RNA-protein complexes, non-coding RNAs, synthetic RNAs etc.
  • Scientific investigation in neuroscience or other biological system at the molecular (nucleic acids, proteins, lipids) and cellular (subcellular organelles, granules, membranes, synapses)
