This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to lead a team focused on developing manufacturing automation, RPA, and web applications to enhance efficiency across our company. As the Manager of the Factory Software team, you will lead all aspects of a team of experts dedicated to supporting engine manufacturing by developing software platforms that enable real-time analysis and decision-making. You will play a pivotal role in driving innovation through the implementation of sophisticated software and hardware technologies, with the latest AWS technologies, data approaches, and machine learning to build distributed, highly available systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of Blue Origin's data pipelines and associated infrastructure, ensuring the highest levels of data utilization and trust.
  • Coordinate the development of automated batch and stream data processing systems, focusing on performance, resiliency, and observability.
  • Manage IoT connectivity projects from inception to completion, collaborating with internal teams and external contractors during the design, assembly, and installation phases.
  • Work with the team to build data collection solutions for IoT systems, databases, PLCs, and APIs. Ensure efficient data transfer to the cloud through edge devices or networked control systems.
  • Lead the development and integration of web applications to support various manufacturing processes and data visualization needs.
  • Ensure that web applications are scalable, secure, and integrate seamlessly with existing systems and data sources.
  • Foster a collaborative team, providing technical mentorship and support to team members, and stepping in to resolve technical challenges as needed.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to ensure high-quality data integration and alignment with business objectives.
Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in computer science, information science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven leadership experience in leading and mentoring a software development team.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and the ability to translate domain expertise into applications.
  • Experience with web application development, including frontend and backend technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, etc).
  • Knowledge of modern web application frameworks and libraries (e.g., React).
  • Experience with ICS protocols (e.g., OPCUA, MTConnect, Modbus).
  • Extensive experience ingesting data from various sources, including REST endpoints, SQL, etc.
  • Strong familiarity with SQL and database systems.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Deep understanding and practical experience with version control systems.
  • Proven track record to take technical ownership, facilitate teamwork, and ensure project success.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired qualifications:
  • Experience with cloud services and applying them to robust solutions.
  • Proficiency with near-real-time data streaming applications.
  • Understanding of ERP, MES, and other common manufacturing software.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and relevant technologies.
