OVERVIEW
Merrick & Company's Nuclear Services & Technology team provides full service nuclear design solutions to the federal government (DOE, NNSA, and NIST), nuclear research, and nuclear medicine. Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Mechanical Engineer to support operations in our Los Alamos, NM office. This position is eligible to be 100% Remote.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The successful candidate will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for a variety of facility projects. Develop design calculations, ventilation flow and instrumentation diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment selection and layout, ductwork and piping sizing and layout, support project proposals, interdisciplinary coordination and participate in QA/QC processes.
- Work in a design team environment, direct the work of junior engineers and designers, delegate work as required, and collaborate with other discipline engineers.
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary coordination.
- Develop calculations, flow diagrams, flow models, and specifications.
- Size and layout ductwork, hydronic piping and plumbing systems.
- Lead QA/QC processes.
- Exhibit strong proficiency with codes, standards and guidelines.
- Interpret nuclear air codes and standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET Accredited Program is required.
- Minimum of twelve (10) years related experience.
- Candidate must have their Professional Engineering (PE) license in SC, TN or NM or able to receive reciprocity within 6 months.
- Experience interfacing with client contacts.
- Strong experience with thermal load calculation and energy modeling for mechanical systems.
- Strong experience in calculating and sizing of mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans and pumps.
- Strong experience in sizing and laying out ductwork and hydronic piping systems.
- Must be familiar with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.
