Job Summary

We are currently looking for a Senior Test Engineer for the Vehicle Measurements Group (VMG). This position reports to the VMG Lab Manager at the Arizona Proving Ground (APG), Yucca, AZ and is an integral part of the Product Development team at Harley-Davidson. The Engineer will be responsible for on-track vehicle measurements and data acquisition in support of product and systems engineering, advanced innovation, long term technology development, and quality initiatives within Product Development Engineering as well as execution of various regulatory testing that enables Harley-Davidson Motor Company to support the world-wide availability of our products.

Job Responsibilities

This Engineering position will be held accountable for delivering the following:



  • Execute technically meaningful tests on motorcycles and their components utilizing data acquisition equipment and methods
  • Compile, analyze, and report test results to engineering in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with engineers, technical specialists, mechanics and riders, as needed to ensure the best results for the product
  • Deliver test and lab goals while demonstrating Fairness and Honesty in all interactions with a Positive attitude and while finding Creative solutions in their work.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in lab methodologies and equipment development.
  • Serve as a technical resource for junior lab members and conduct training in support of overall lab capability development.

This position requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical degree or PE license

Experience Requirements

This role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:

Data Acquisition Systems and Techniques



  • Demonstrate understanding of data acquisition systems and techniques through successful execution of testing projects. Can develop basic testing strategies for motorcycle systems and/or components as needed. Track record of consistently delivering quality decision ready data that meets customer expectations.



Test Instrumentation



  • Has independently and successfully applied instrumentation tools and techniques during project execution. Has provided high quality test data through detailed understanding of transducer designs, calibration, limitations, and their appropriate usage



Analysis of Test Results to Provide Decision Ready Information



  • Has developed tools to efficiently reduce & summarize test data in charts, plots, and diagrams for purposes of design analysis. Has analyzed test data in both time and frequency domain. Regularly provides error bounds, statistical analysis, and/or annotation to test results.



Fatigue Analysis



  • Has a basic understanding of fatigue concepts from undergraduate college courses or seminars. Can perform simple fatigue calculations based on stress-life or strain-life material curves and simple cyclic loading.



Regulatory/Homologation Testing



  • Has performed and/or is familiar with regulatory based test work such as brake testing, noise emissions tests, engine power tests, vehicle emissions tests, and/or market specific regulatory compliance.
