The Office of Development at the Dell Medical School is looking for Director of Events.

Purpose

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development Operations & Strategic Initiatives at Dell Medical School, the Director of Events will lead the strategic planning, execution, and evaluation of all fundraising and donor engagement events for the University of Texas Medical Center (UTMC), anchored by Dell Medical School. This role is pivotal in enhancing UTMC's philanthropic efforts, fostering donor relationships, and ensuring the success of high-impact events that support our mission and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive events strategy that aligns with UTMC's fundraising goals and objectives. One that leverages the strengths of the dean, her leadership team, university leadership and other key stakeholders. As needed, plan and execute events generated from the dean's office. Such as commencement and match day.

  • Event Management: Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all major fundraising events, including goals, donor recognition events and community outreach programs.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and a mentor a team of professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.

  • Budget Oversight: Manage event budgets, ensuring alignment with university and state policies, cost-effective use of resources while maximizing event impact and revenue.

  • Donor Engagement: Through the roles of event planning and management, assist in cultivating donor relationships, ensuring event experiences enhance their relationship with UTMC and the University of Texas at Austin.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the development team, marketing, and communications departments to ensure cohesive and effective event promotion and execution.

  • Evaluation and reporting: Analyze event outcomes, prepare detailed reports, and provide recommendations for future improvements.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in event management, marketing, communications, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years in event management within a medical center, academic research center and/or higher education setting.Strong leadership and team management skills. Demonstrated organizational and project management skills. Demonstrated experience working in a highly complex and dynamic setting.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in event management software and tools. Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and perform at an exceptional level. Ability to manage multiple complex events, concurrently. Creative and strategic thinker. Experience working with high level executives, leadership, and faculty. Passionate about the mission of an academic medical center and committed to making a positive impact. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Health care fundraising experience highly preferred. Seven to ten years of direct events management experience and working with VIP stakeholders, board members, and volunteers. Two to three years of experience managing direct reports or teams.Experience with fundraising databases or other prospective donor relations systems, e.g., Raiser's Edge, Sales Force, etc.Personal and professional confidence, accompanied by a sense of humor and empathy toward others.

Salary Range

$95,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Extended work hours to include nights and weekends will be required on an as needed basis.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
