  1. Provides primary mental health care services to patients across the lifespan, emphasizing mental health promotion, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic mental health conditions.
  2. Works autonomously to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients, as well as in collaboration with the patient care team to provide holistic health care.
  3. Obtains health histories and performs basic neurological physical exams if necessary. Diagnosis and, in partnership with the patient, manages acute and chronic mental health conditions.
  4. Provides comprehensive primary mental health care, including the prescribing of psychoactive medications used to treat mental illness and emotional disorders, through evidence-based practice modalities.
  5. Facilitate admitting patients to hospitals, and other higher levels of care as needed.
  6. Document treatment reviews on each active client as dictated by DHS 35.
  7. Consult with Behavioral Health team members on cases as needed.
  8. Serves as a consultation resource on mental health care to patients and families as well as the clinic and the community at large.
  9. Orders, conducts and interprets diagnostic studies and laboratory tests within the scope of practice of psychiatric/mental health.
  10. Attend weekly/monthly staffing meetings where case reviews, psychiatric consultations, and medical reviews take place.
  11. Prepares and maintains behavioral health patient reports and records.
  12. Participates in the training of nurse practitioners, medical students, and medical residents.
  13. Serve as the collaborating physician for the BH midlevel providers, when/if indicated.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  1. Licensed as a physician in the State of Wisconsin and holds a valid DEA.
  2. Completion of Psychiatry Residency from an accredited Psychiatry Program.
  3. Board certification or eligibility for Board Certification in Psychiatry.
  4. Working knowledge of social and cultural factors associated with the community's use of social and health care services.
  5. Ability to understand patient attitudes and needs, develop and orient program goals and concepts accordingly, and to work effectively toward their accomplishment with all staff members.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, officials, the public, patients, other private and public organizational representatives, health care personnel and community groups and organizations.
  7. Ability to work under pressure, maintain personal composure, evaluate situations, and act/react appropriately, and use tact in dealing with visitors, patients, and difficult situations.
  8. Ability to identify and maintain confidential material.
  9. Ability to interpret and conform program operations to applicable laws, rules, regulations, and funding source requirements and according to acceptable standards.
  10. Spanish speaking preferred.
