Mission:

As Controls and Automation Architect, your primary mission will be to define, develop, and validate the automation aspects of the FAL productions lines, manufacturing execution systems, and line management systems in line to production programs requirements and flight hardware configurations.

Responsibilities:



  • Develop, implement, and support automation solutions, including the line supervision system (SCADA), Line Management System (LMS), and manufacturing automation equipment.
  • Program, configure, and support PLCs, HMI, SCADA, and other control systems for new developments and improvement to existing systems to optimize manufacturing processes and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain automation equipment, including Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Collaborative Mobile Robots (CMRs), to ensure operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure proper configuration of automation systems and alignment with mechanical systems and process requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with an operational excellence focus to enhance manufacturing processes and product quality.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including Quality, Configuration Management, Industrial Management, Production, Design Engineering, and other Manufacturing Engineering teams to implement design and process changes, manage non-conformances, and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical support, training, and expertise in SCADA, LMS, AGVs, and related systems to ensure smooth operation and integration.
  • Main technical interface for all automation topics in the production floor and any automation software-hardware supplier.
  • Follow-up and validate the automation software provided by suppliers or developers (including documentation).
  • Formulate and assess any evolutions and improvements to automation systems by end users or new requirements.



Tasks:



  • Serve as the technical expert for SCADA, LMS, and AGV systems, supporting manufacturing engineers and addressing troubleshooting needs.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, satellite configurations, and procedural requirements.
  • Coordinate with various departments to facilitate design and process changes, non-conformance management, and anomaly resolution.
  • Support and lead the repair and maintenance activities for manufacturing systems and equipment.



Innovation and continuous improvement:



  • Define and maintain a FAL automation capability road map, in line with the company product road map.
  • Work with the FAL production support group to implement process improvement and lessons learned to reduce non-quality during operations and improve takt time of production flow.



Team development and management:



  • Provide guidance, coaching, and progressive development actions to the Automation and Controls Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Support managerial and supervisory tasks, like reviews, development plans, as needed.
  • Drive a safety-and-quality-first culture on the Automation team, and foster collaboration within the Manufacturing organization peers.



Skills/Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Controls, Industrial Automation) or related discipline. MBA, or MS in system controls is preferred.
  • 10+ years of proven experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on automated test systems and spacecraft/satellites manufacturing as a plus.
  • Proficient in PLC programming, particularly with Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms, and SCADA systems, ideally Wonderware System Platform and Inductive Automation Ignition.
  • Strong understanding of database management (preferably Microsoft SQL Server) and familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), quality management systems, and SAP.
  • Excellent system engineering, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of engaging with various organizational levels and cultural backgrounds.
