Position Overview


Primary Purpose of Position
The purpose of the Extended Campus Director of Distance Education is to oversee the planning, development, and delivery of distance education programs in credit and non-credit programs according to relevant policies and quality standards.

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Distance Education include ensuring that online courses and programs are of high quality, engaging, and effective in achieving faculty learning outcomes for students.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Focused on the needs of a variety of traditional and non-traditional learners, the Extended Campus unit proactively engages the N.C. A&T community and external collaborators to actuate a bold, transformative education strategy to create online, professional, and lifelong learning opportunities, helping ensure A&T's preeminence within a changing higher education landscape.
Minimum Requirements
A master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field is required; 3-5 years of experience in distance education or educational technology is required, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or management role. Experience working with diverse student populations.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Seven years experience at an R1 or high research activity university; master's degree; familiar with strategies for adult learner engagement, enrollment marketing, program development, course design, student success, and for promoting inclusive excellence in online learning environments; good understanding of the distance education landscape, accreditation and regulations. Must be able to analyze data, trends, and to monitor and communicate compliance in a variety of modalities. QM and ACUE certifications of any type. Competencies with project management, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and partnership development. Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft 365, online teaching and learning applications skills.
