The Global Markets & Technologies (GM&T) World Business Unit delivers technological solutions (molecules, equipment and services) to support the new markets of energy transition, maritime logistics and scientific exploration, in order to accelerate Air Liquide sustainable growth. To support the energy transition, GM&T brings environmentally friendly solutions to the clean energy market with hydrogen energy and Bio-Natural Gas for vehicles, refrigerated transport using nitrogen, but also the treatment and injection of Biogas into the energy grid as a local power source.

The Field Service Engineer Trainee will divide their time supporting a membrane testing platform at our facility in Delaware and will also support field service activities across North America with the rest of their available time. This role offers the opportunity to be on the cutting edge of membrane development through operating and managing state-of-the-art test platforms. The role will also involve traveling to support our field service department by assisting in plant startups and system performance tuning for Air Liquide membrane systems. This unique role will allow the individual to take learnings found in the field and directly apply them to membrane manufacturing and system design for a strong and growing membrane market within the renewable energy sector.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate compliance in process and operational safety at all times, and demand that of others, including plant personnel, visitors, contractors.

  • Perform all activities with safety at the forefront of priorities; serve as a safety role model; promote a high level of safety awareness; adhere to and support continuous improvement of all safety practices / procedures.

  • Act as the customer interface for customer field support and service activities.

  • Provide technical support and expertise related to our systems for customers.

  • Perform troubleshooting activities to assess and diagnose potential issues and corrective actions.

  • 50% of time spent supporting the membrane test platform at the Delaware facility. Lead Operator and project management for test platform to include: procurement of equipment, managing test schedule, working with experts to identify root cause, site maintenance, and contractor management

  • 50% of time spent working in a field service capacity supporting pre- commissioning, commissioning, membrane installations, site evaluations, system performance tuning and other field service activities

  • Lead project system/equipment installation and startup activities.

  • Participate in systems design reviews and HAZOPs.

  • Serve as a bridge between customers and engineering teams.

  • Provide operational assessment of operating systems, and suggest improvements/optimizations.

  • Provide support as needed to operations teams for Air Liquide-owned and operated facilities.

  • Collect, review, and analyze field data from systems in operation.

  • Support and execute membrane installation and removal in the field.

  • Conduct training for customer personnel for the operation of Air Liquide-supplied equipment.

  • Provide deliverables, including written assessments and operational recommendations required for efficient, safe, productive operations to customers.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair maintenance on customer equipment as needed.

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed; specifically to load membranes into housings.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 1 to 2 years engineering / operations experience.

  • Hands on experience with industrial process equipment.

  • Experience with process modeling software.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with people and organizations.

  • Knowledge of commonly used business software and technical software specific to our equipment; software includes Google, Microsoft, Aspen/Hysys, and Autocad.

  • Ability to write detailed reports for site visits and develop operational recommendations to improve and/or optimize the customers' system operation.

  • Exceptional problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Demonstrates strong work behaviors including organization, timeliness, dependability, and courtesy to others.

  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% both domestically and internationally. At times the travel may be in excess of 50%.

  • Fluent in English.

  • US Citizen or Green Card Holder - The candidate must have valid unrestricted employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated history of working unsupervised in remote locations.

  • Experience with Aspen/Hysys process modeling software.

  • Electrical drawing understanding and ability to troubleshoot.

  • Industrial Controls experience - AB CompactLogix preferred.

  • Experience in chemical and/or hydrocarbon processing; hands-on field and plant experience preferred.

  • Working experience with membrane systems, including; design, engineering, operations, troubleshooting, and system optimization.

  • Experience with gas separations.

  • Future international travel which will require a Passport

Salary Information

  • Salary range for this position in Newport, DE - $95k - $100k with an additional annual target incentive of 9% based on performance
