About the Job

This is a position in the area of phytoremediation, wastewater treatment and reuse, remediation of hazardous wastes, and renewable energy. The successful candidate will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) manage the lab and field-based research programs, focusing on pilot testing, feasibility studies, design, reporting, and troubleshooting of a plant removal of environmental pollutants from soil and water, and a novel wastewater sludge treatment and biogas production project.

Working Conditions: Must be able to perform essential functions under normal working conditions that include working outside with exposure to those weather conditions common to Twin Cities, Minnesota.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • 75% Independently manage and participate in the setup, maintenance, and data collection of field, laboratory, and controlled environment experiments dealing with the phytoremediation, wastewater sludge anaerobic digestion and treatment
  • 15% Analyze and summarize data, assist in writing reports for the LCCMR, industry cooperators, and for peer-reviewed journals, and prepare oral presentations for various industry and professional meetings
  • 5% Supervision of undergraduate student employees and temporary employees with authority to assign and direct the work
  • 5% Management and maintenance of Bioprocessing Lab, and collaborations with other group members
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in bioprocessing engineering or a related field
  • The ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in phytoremediation and anaerobic digestion
About the Department

The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBE) discovers and teaches solutions for the sustainable use of renewable resources and enhancement of the environment. BBE integrates engineering, science, technology, and management into all degree programs taught by internationally recognized faculty.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $56.484 - $61,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
