Job Summary

Under the Office of Population Health and in collaborations with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Tobacco Prevention Program (CTPP), the incumbent will use skills as a seasoned, experienced digital communications professional to produce, design and layout for a variety of non-routine and moderately complex web site applications; and ensure search engine optimization. Demonstrates a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures.

The incumbent is primarily responsible for developing and implementing digital media projects, including website management and daily project oversight, digital advertising, and digital media consumer engagement. Research digital media trends and provides recommendations on increasing engagement and breadth of the campaign website. Provides technical expertise for media advertising campaigns associated with conducting a comprehensive statewide tobacco education program.

** Requires travel both in and out-of-state as required to provide technical assistance, training, and disseminate information.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience executing and project managing a variety of digital media projects, particularly for consumer websites, including projects that are being developed concurrently.
  • Experience using website analytics platforms, analyzing and reporting digital communications data and writing a variety of related reporting materials.
  • Experience analyzing digital media or communications problems, develop alternatives, and make sound recommendations on a course of action to high level administrators on public health communication issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way.
  • Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
  • Thorough knowledge of content management systems and/or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs.
  • Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional websites that provide web content consistent with the CTPP's message and in keeping with management directives.
  • Thorough technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation, preparation, animation, web interaction, and/or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
  • Thorough interpersonal communication skills.
  • Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree communications/journalism/media/public relations, data science, computer science, or other related field and experience in communications, advertising, and marketing.
  • Experience leading procurement efforts to obtain digital communications services.
  • Spanish, Chinese, Korean, or Vietnamese language skills.

The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center's Office of Population Health provides staff services support for the California Tobacco Prevention Program at the California Department of Public Health. To change tobacco-related social norms, the California Tobacco Prevention Program funds a statewide media campaign and state and community interventions which focus on policy, system, and environmental changes.
