Description

Vedder Price's Chicago office is looking for an Accounting Manager, General Ledger. The Accounting Manager, General Ledger is responsible for managing the general ledger accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to lead a team effectively. As a key member of our Accounting management team, you will work closely with and report to the Controller, and will regularly interact and work with the Payroll Manager, Tax & Audit, FP&A, and the CFO.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:



  • Lead and mentor the general ledger accounting team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture
  • Identify and address training and development needs, oversee onboarding for new team members, and provide regular performance feedback for professional development


Financial Oversight:



  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring financial transactions are accurately recorded in a timely manner
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with reporting standards


Compliance and Controls:



  • Maintain and enforce robust internal controls to adhere with firm policies and regulatory requirements
  • Support internal and external audits by providing thorough documentation on internal controls and processes


Process Optimization:



  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and implement best practices in accounting operations
  • Leverage technology to enhance accuracy, streamline workflows, and improve financial processes


Cross-Functional Collaboration:



  • Partner with other department leaders to gather critical information for reporting and month-end closing activities
  • Work closely with the Audit and Tax team in support of internal and external audits by providing documentation, analyses and accounting related responses


Strategic Contributions:



  • Prepare and present financial reports for senior management, providing actionable insights.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and incorporate relevant change into departmental policies and procedures


Skills & Competencies:



  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly in professional service firms
  • Advanced problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on identifying solutions and implementing sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Proficiency in utilizing multiple accounting and financial systems with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to meet deadlines and use time efficiently
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on clarity, precision and professionalism
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.


Qualifications & Required Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • MBA or other advanced degree in finance or accounting a plus
  • CPA highly encouraged
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience within an accounting and finance function required (law/professional services firm experience preferred
  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines


Software Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following software:



  • Experience with 3E Accounting System or other major accounting software, and business analytic tools strongly preferred
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and Word skills required


Compensation Range: $100,000/yr. to $130,000/yr.
