UFP Construction is seeking a Regional Production Engineer to be a catalyst for transformation across our manufacturing plants. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about driving Continuous Improvement (CI), enhancing productivity, advancing safety protocols, and optimizing capital project installations. You'll play a pivotal role as an internal consultant, helping plants achieve their full potential while promoting a culture of innovation and excellence.

As a Regional Production Engineer, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of manufacturing by integrating Lean principles, improving safety and ergonomics, and solving complex challenges related to production. Your expertise will be vital in enhancing plant efficiency, implementing productivity gains, and ensuring that our operations align with UFP's high standards.

Location: Preferably near Tooele, Utah or Chandler, Arizona OR Remote-UT or REMOTE-AZ
Travel: 75% (4 days/week traveling, Fridays working from home or plant office)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Capital Project Installations: Oversee and ensure successful implementation of capital projects, from start to finish, providing ongoing support to maximize productivity.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for productivity and safety improvements by researching and implementing CI principles. Troubleshoot productivity issues and lead solutions.
  • Enhance Operational Excellence: Utilize tools such as value stream mapping, 5S, and TPM to evaluate and improve plant processes, identifying areas to reduce waste and enhance efficiency.
  • Safety and Ergonomics Advocate: Conduct machinery safety audits, ensuring new installations meet rigorous safety standards. Guide plants in enhancing ergonomics to improve worker safety and comfort.
  • Collaboration & Training: Partner with site personnel to implement CI training, support project activities, and act as a conduit for sharing key learnings across locations.
  • Mentor & Coach: Teach, coach, and mentor employees at all levels, sharing your knowledge of Lean principles and helping teams apply them to achieve sustainable improvements.
  • Strategic Planning: Monitor plant performance, assess compliance with company policies, and ensure all goals align with the broader business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field - preferred but not required (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience: 3-5 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing operations and Lean principles (5S, Kanban, process flow, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills, with a proven track record in improving processes and driving results
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD; knowledge of business and engineering software a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across all organizational levels
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and travel extensively as needed
