Summary:

The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.

Our Community Health department spans two counties in Maine: Knox and Waldo counties. We offer community classes under SNAP-Education, Tobacco Prevention, healthy aging (Matter of Balance and Tai Chi) as well as community programming like monthly hikes in collaboration with our local land trusts. We also have a Community Health Worker program. We do food security work and think of ourselves as the liaisons between the hospital and our communities.

The following are tasks the intern may assist with:

Maine SNAP-Ed: Maine SNAP-Ed offers a variety of free nutrition based programing opportunities for schools and organizations within the Waldo County Community. Our intern will assist with the day to day operations of our work which may include: prepping for class, food prep, providing classroom support, teaching opportunities, and creating curricula materials.

Food Security: Assist us with our food security work, which may include: re-stocking our two "Help Yourself Shelves", attending meetings, packing food boxes for department pick-up, and packing and separating fresh produce.

Job shadowing: Our intern will have the opportunity to shadow individuals within our department and gain insight into the services we offer. Also, there will be opportunities to attend classes provided by the Community Health Department such as Tai Chi, Matter of Balance, Fit and Strong, Happy Wanders Program (outdoor hiking program). Community

Outreach/Trainings: Building strong community connections is important to us. Our intern will assist our department with networking and attending community meetings and/or events. Additionally, we hope to provide our intern with different training opportunities within different fields of our work.

Preference will be given to students pursuing nutrition, education, public health, community health or related fields.

1. Education: Student who is currently enrolled in a two-year Associate's Degree program, Bachelor's Degree program, or graduate-level program preferred.
