Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus as a Substation Test Technician in Field Engineering Department. Our Substation Test Technicians lead and perform testing and maintenance of medium and high voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and other electrical apparatus in utility substation environments.

Work locations: Nevada

Travel: 50-75%



Responsibilities

    Oversee and execute maintenance activities involving the operation of equipment in utility substations from 15-500kV, adhering to all safety measures.
  • Safely lead project teams of up to 8 Qualus personnel.
  • Perform inspection, testing, and troubleshooting on medium and high voltage circuit breakers up to 500kV including megger, ductor, power factor, gas analysis, and timing tests.
  • Perform inspection, testing and troubleshooting of power transformers including TTR, power factor, SFRA, and winding resistance.
  • Perform testing on current transformers, CCVT's, substation grounding systems, and station batteries.
  • Utilize and accurately read meters and test equipment.
  • Must have a strong proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and wiring drawings.
  • Troubleshoot circuit breaker and transformer controls.
  • Accurately document test results using Power DB.
  • Adhere to production timelines.
  • Mentor and help hold team members accountable for assigned tasks.


Qualifications

  • 5 years' related experience in substations, power plants, primary power distribution and related protection and control schemes.
  • Education: 2-year technical school graduate, BSEE, Navy Nuclear Power or Army Prime Power experience preferred; High School/GED required with technical/vocational school background related to electrical/power required.
  • Reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications.
  • Perform regular field work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, business acumen, management ability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Licensures and Certifications: Journeyman, NETA 2, 3, or 4 preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
