Job Overview

As part of the Charles Turner Post-Doctoral Program, we are pleased to announce a new postdoctoral fellow position with the School of Environment and Sustainability (SEaS) in the College of Arts and Sciences. Named in honor of one of the first Black students to earn a graduate degree at the University of Cincinnati, the Charles Henry Turner Post-Doctoral Program aims to attract talented postdoctoral fellows who will contribute diverse perspectives, expertise, and skill sets that bolster inclusion and innovation and enhance the student experience.

We seek an exceptional scholar with research interests in atmospheric science, climate change, and/or meteorology. The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised and mentored by Dr. Amy Townsend-Small and Dr. Laura Zanotti. The postdoc's research time may be spent on projects of their own design, ongoing projects in the School of Environment and Sustainability, or a combination of both. In addition to conducting and publishing independent and collaborative research, the postdoc will be expected to teach one course per academic year in the School of Environment and Sustainability.

This position will provide postdoctoral research training and mentoring for one year, renewable for a second year upon satisfactory performance. The position pays an annual nine-month salary of $56,000 (paid over 12 months). Funds for travel, professional development, and research expenses are also available for the successful candidate.

Essential Functions

- Engage in data collection, data analysis, and academic writing related to the postdoctoral scholar's research program.

- Teach courses in SEaS: one course per academic year (courses to be determined according to candidate's interests and department needs).

- Meet regularly with postdoc supervisors and colleagues.

Minimum Requirements

- Applicants must have earned a PhD in atmospheric science, climate change, or meteorology or a closely related field within the past five years. A degree must be earned prior to the effective date of the appointment.

- Experience and/or demonstrated interest in publishing or teaching in specialty fields.

Application Process

In addition to the application, applicants must submit a current copy of their curriculum vitae; cover letter; one writing sample; and contact information for three academic references. Applicants who have not yet completed their Ph.D. must also include a letter from their committee or Department Chair specifying the date of the dissertation defense. After an initial round of review, applicants may be asked to provide the names and email addresses of three references from whom we will request confidential letters of recommendation.

In addition to the above materials, applicants will need to include a statement sharing your definition of team and what makes a team function successfully.

Review of applications will begin on February 21, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. We anticipate a position start date on August 13, 2025.
