Description

The candidate will handle brand strategy and promotion for 23rd Street Books, specializing in adult graphic novels, and First Second Books, specializing in young readers graphic novels. This role involves simultaneously building the brands of 23rd Street and First Second, with each imprint like two sides of the same coin, as:



  • High value consumer facing brands
  • The best editorial home for graphic novel creators from all fields
  • Ever growing presences in the Book Trade, the S&L market, and the Direct Market (comics retailers)
  • Attractive sources for film, tv, and gaming properties


This is a deadline-focused, results-driven role that requires someone with strong organizational skills and a flair for creative strategy. You should be comfortable interacting with several company departments from editorial to marketing, be open to learning, and be able to drive brand marketing strategies across multiple platforms.

What you'll do:

Key responsibilities include executing or supervising the following:



  • Generate creative and results-driven marketing campaigns for First Second and 23rd Street titles, authors, and series.
  • Complementing MCPG's existing title-by-title marketing and publicity teams with a lens on building the overall brands of the two imprints.
  • Managing and monitoring both imprints' website and social media platforms, developing engaging social media content with a focus on organically growing the audiences.
  • Develop creative email marketing campaigns and build community through monthly brand-specific newsletters.
  • Growing brand visibility through media coverage for the imprints across print, radio, online; being both reactive to cultural trends and proactive in promoting our books and creators.
  • Maintain a keen understanding of competitive brands in the publishing industry, as well as the overall children's, teen, and entertainment markets.
  • Plan and orchestrate COMIC CON appearances-including SDCC, NYCC, TCAF, and other regional and national conventions to grow brand awareness and generate sales.
  • Working with Design, Editorial, Macmillan Marketing, Publicity, and Sales, as needed to integrate with overall publishing strategy.


What you'll bring:



  • Experience in comics, trade publishing, and/or entertainment media
  • Experience in book marketing, social media, marketing and/or publicity a plus, but not required.
  • Creative approach to social media and strong understanding of digital analytics
  • Ideally, basic graphic design skills, HTML experience helpful
  • Ideally, event and conference planning experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to learn new programs and be flexible within a changing marketplace
  • Strategy-oriented with the ability to think creatively
  • A love of graphic novels is essential.


Ideal Experience:



  • Prior experience in publishing or media or related field preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent


This role will have an annual salary of $70,000-$75,000.
