Description
SUMMARY
The Sports Performance Scientist / Analyst is responsible for leading the collection, analysis, and application of all sports performance data to optimize athlete health, training, and game performance. The Sports Performance Scientist / Analyst focuses on implementing cutting-edge sports science techniques to monitor athlete well-being, support injury rehabilitation and return to play protocols, and enhance performance outcomes. This role requires a passion in progressive, data-driven approaches to soccer performance, a commitment to research in health and performance science, and excellent communication skills for collaboration with key stakeholders across the club. The Sports Performance Scientist / Analyst will attend all training sessions, home and away games, reporting directly to the Director of Sports Performance Coach, and working closely with the Medical Department to ensure player health and availability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the collection, analysis, and reporting of performance data sets, including but not limited to readiness to train, wellness, training, fatigue monitoring, physical and match performance data.
- Utilize sports science and data analysis to make informed decisions on player performance, rehabilitation, and return- to- play strategies in collaboration with performance, medical, and coaching stakeholders.
- Test, evaluate, monitor, and deliver insight and specific reporting of important findings to Director of Sports Performance related to sports science and data analysis.
- Assist with daily field warmups, strength training sessions and reserve training sessions. Opportunities to design and implement protocols related to these areas will be frequent.
- Provide recommendations on physical performance, injury prevention, and off-season programming to athletes.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to introduce innovative practices and present research on factors influencing player performance and injury prevention/risk.
- Manage the integration of current analytical tools into a centralized data management system.
- Develop new models, dashboards, and reports to analyze the physical health of the players throughout the course of the season.
- Assist in other aspects within the Performance Department - i.e. fitness and strength sessions.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches, other team personnel and MLS staff.
- Comply with all MLS medical policies, protocol and Game Operations Manuals.
- Special projects and assignments as business dictates.
- Responsible for the maintenance, creation and control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies that you have access or knowledge of, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPAA.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Science in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning or related field
- Minimum of 4 years related experience
- Good knowledge of Excel, Tableau or Microsoft Power BI
- Experience using technologies such as: Catapult GPS, Vald Performance, Force Plates, etc.
- Knowledge and experience in the implementation of strength and conditioning programming in elite level athletes
- Knowledge in the following areas: Data processing and analyses, statistics, strength training, plyometrics, speed development, conditioning, flexibility and injury prevention.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Highly organized and able to maintain a structured plan.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Currently holds or is working towards becoming a Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) through the NSCA (Required)
- CSCS certification (Preferred)
- Current CPR/First Aid certification
