THE ROLE

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Nursing Service, is responsible for the quality of service delivered by multiple Nursing Areas. Participates as a member of the hospital's management team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with particular reference to the role, functions, and operations of the hospital's nursing services. Is responsible for patient care management, resource management, and fiscal management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Responsible for all identified outcome measures as denoted on Performance Assessment.
  • Responsible for managing, directing, and supervising nursing and patient activities.
  • Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice within the institution.
  • Assesses the quality of care rendered, while encouraging and supporting improvement activities that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of nursing services.
  • Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern patient care activities, practices inter-department collaboration with other services.
  • Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing a process for staffing and services rendered, while evaluating the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care within the goals of the hospital.
  • Participates in appropriate meetings and committees.
  • Invasive and Non-Invasive Cardiac Services:
  • Promote physician satisfaction and referrals by researching and providing state-of-the-art technology while maintaining fiscal integrity of the institution.
  • Direct the coordination of diagnostic and interventional cardiac services to promote efficiency, continuity of care and physician satisfaction.
  • Oversees the management of multiple safety issues (radiation and electrical, infection control, physical stress) relating to staff and patients.
  • Collaborates with Materials Management to negotiate effective contracts and follow-through with sales and service vendors for Cardiac Services.
  • Facilitate statistical analysis and research methodologies that compare Covenant Heart Center's processes and outcomes with national and international benchmarks.
  • Diabetes Care:
  • Promote physician satisfaction and referrals by researching and providing state-of-the-art evidence based theories, practices, and technology while maintaining fiscal integrity of the Diabetes program.
  • Direct the coordination and integration of all diabetes related services for both inpatient and outpatient to promote efficiency, continuity of care and physician satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with Materials Management to negotiate effective contracts and follow-through with sales and service vendors for Diabetes related services.
  • Establish and support educational, pharmaceutical, and psychosocial support systems for patients with Diabetes.
  • Facilitate statistical analysis and research methodologies that compare Covenant's Diabetes program processes and outcomes with national and international benchmarks.
  • Collaborates with appropriate marketing professionals to develop strategies to remain competitive in the community and region, and raise public awareness.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Master's Degree - Masters of Science in Nursing or Master's Degree in Healthcare Management
  • 5 years of clinical experience, including 3 years progressive management experience
  • Applies principles of organization, theories of management, and human resources management
  • Develops and implements strategies of nursing management
  • Actively develops and participates in the financial management of the organization
  • Communicates and implements the foundations of health laws to nursing personnel
  • Minimal travel required.
