Vehicle Maintenance Supervisors oversee the day-to-day operations of the vehicle maintenance staff at a facility. This position provides leadership and direction to maintenance staff. Supervisors coordinate and supervise maintenance work and repairs, as well as monitor safety, productivity, and quality.

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Ensure all work performed by staff is completed in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Be a mentor/coach to all direct reports with proper use of SAP programming and assignment.
  • Supervise the maintenance staff, including training, scheduling work assignments, and authorization of overtime.
  • Regularly communicate with management, operations, and others regarding the status of fleet vehicles, containers and/or other equipment.
  • Ensure the maintenance department maintains quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure maintenance is performed safely, effectively, and expeditiously.
  • Perform and monitor vehicle inspections.
  • Review work orders and ensure parts inventory is maintained.
  • Ensure all paperwork in completed accurately and timely.
  • Train and direct employees to improve their overall performance.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, employees, and managers.
  • Conduct employee observations to ensure safety and procedures are being followed.
  • Perform road calls to repair vehicles as necessary in the event of vehicle breakdowns.
  • Road test vehicles to determine necessary repair as needed.
  • Perform mechanical duties as needed.
  • May be require to travel within the company for training purposes or business needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Ability to maintain parts inventory.
  • Familiarity with use of repair manuals, electrical wiring, and schematics necessary to troubleshoot.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, SAP a plus.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and DOT rules and regulations.



Physical Requirements in a Regular workday:



  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 10lbs.
  • Continuously lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 20lbs.
  • Frequently walking.
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
  • Frequently Climbing and/or balancing.
  • Continuously working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter.
  • Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
  • Occasionally climbing and/or balancing.



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
  • Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Ability to travel between locations as needed.
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.

Qualifications
Education
High School (required)
General Education Diploma (preferred)
Bachelors of Relevant field (preferred)
Experience
Waste Industry experience, a plus. (preferred)
Experience working with welding equipment. (preferred)
Previous supervisory or management experience. (preferred)
3 years: Experience performing repairs and maintenance on diesel powered, heavy vehicles, hydraulics, equipment, and related components. (preferred)
