Summary We are looking for a Mainframe Application Developer to Join Our Team! We provide technical solutions to our commercial customers using both Mainframe and Distributed Technology. Our team works in a highly collaborative environment, utilizing a combination of Agile and Waterfall methodologies, and is at the forefront of integrating traditionally distributed technologies on the Mainframe. Position Purpose:

This position involves performing all phases of applications systems analysis, including analyzing system specifications or creation of specifications after analysis and developing applications on the Mainframe. Responsibilities include coding, testing, debugging, documenting and maintaining programs. The role also requires ensuring more junior team members understand business requirements and delivering applications on time.

What You'll Do:

  • Ensure team members understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions, organizational standards are maintained, and applications are delivered according to project timeliness. Provide expert system knowledge, perform research, attend meetings, and review documents.

  • Maintain and modify programs according to specifications. Code, compile, and implement application software that is delivered on time and within budget. Evaluate basic interrelationships in immediate programming area to determine how changes in one program will affect another related area.

  • Test modified programs, create necessary test files and data, verify logic, debug, and write relevant documentation.

  • Analyze production systems, recommend systems enhancements, provide instruction to production support team. Research customer issues and determine appropriate resolutions. Coordinate implementation of modifications or enhancements.

  • Analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems. Develop functional design and technical specifications, concept diagrams, and workflow diagrams and related procedures to process data using appropriate systems environment/platform. Document programs/procedures.

Work Environment: Customer-focused, project-oriented programming environment. Fast paced, multi-platformed environment which may require action and response 24X7 to support the technical business needs of the customer.

To Qualify for This Position, You'll Need:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related field

Degree Equivalency:

  • 4 years job-related work experience OR

  • Associate's degree and 2 years job-related work experience

Required Work Experience:

  • 4 years of application development, systems testing or other job-related experience.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of applications/development, quality assurance and integration methodologies, concepts and facilities in a mainframe, midrange, web, and/or PC/LAN environment.

  • Strong analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates logical abstract thinking and assimilating/adhering to project goals and deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Able to work well under pressure and as part of a team.

  • Strong knowledge of interpersonal skills/team building.

  • Familiar with project management concepts.

  • Pays attention to detail.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients, vendors etc.

Required Software and Other Tools:

  • Strong knowledge of relevant operating systems, programming languages, and development tools and their usage in the company.

We Prefer that You Have:

  • At least 2 years of experience in Mainframe Application Development.

  • Experience with COBOL, DB2, JCL, APS and IMS.

  • Exposure to large systems with an insurance company or financial institution.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze systems and develop specifications base on business need.
